That would definitely fit! I roasted a massive pork joint last week it was about the size of a fat pug(or was it really a fat pug) I left it on second lowest bar for 2 hours then moved it up for another 2-3 hours, I used a meat thermometer (recommended for safe eating) so can't remember exactly how long all together but around 4-5 hours should do a Terrier, the stainless steel bar and spikes are really good quality thick and strong

I came across this unit the other week on Hombase's website and it was £60.

It has great reviews for the price on BBQ forums. 15kg max weight is a lot of meat!

May need an additional pair of spikes

I done 2 chickens and just spiked each end, they did slip a little now and again but not a big problem, next time I will probably try skewering them together in the middle with a metal sewer then spike at either end as normal

    Google the Kellybab recipe. 😋

If you frequent the CountryWoodSmoke or British BBQ Society FB groups you will see there is a right of passage for the Kellybab...... I've done it 3 times now, once on gas BBQ where I turned it every 20 mins, the 2nd was on gas with rotisserie, the final time was over charcoal with a battery rotisserie on the middle of a field with the boys...... All 3 fabulous!!!!

Try Asda. They've got the Char Broil Tru Infrared 3 Burner on clearance for (IIRC) £130. Not a bad BBQ for that money.

I used it for a smoke I did last year with decent results, but the pieces were massive! I am much more inclined to use briquettes. I think ill struggle to get some aussie heat beads locally.

Yeah, I've had a similar generic blue sack before and found all sorts of reclaimed wood, one had a metal hinge on it! I wouldn't recommend lump for long slow, smoke sessions as it's too erratic and can add too much smoke. With briquettes, it's predictable and gives you the ability to use a smoke flavour with chunks (chips are a waste of time on long sessions).

Try The Range and your local garden centres. The other alternative is to buy bulk (over 50 quid) to get free delivery from most of the big BBQ resellers.

For people mentioning no lid or sides. Many people have just got a simple camping cooking windshield and bolted it on directly through the rotisserie holes. The outwell one seems to be an excellent fit. It gives you 3 covered sides and you could then also pop something on top for a lid. £9 for the outwell one

picked one up yesterday and put it up last night and it is very sturdy, seems like it will last a while, will have a spit roast session on sunday in the garden with some beers!. Got a beef joint, pork shoulder joint and a whole chicken to test! good deal, heat added

Last night I lit about 3/4 of a large chimney and did a couple of steaks, half a rack of ribs. Then two hours later some toasted marshmallows. This morning there was very little ash, compared to say the Wilko briquettes.....I reckon 2/3 less for the same quantity of fuel.

Pound for pound, briquettes will leave more ash than lump anyway.

I'm going to give a 15kg bag a go as I'm running low on lump. Cheers

    homebase.co.uk/jum…168

I think HB web had some erroneous price updates yesterday, I saw loads in-store in Biggleswade yesterday - the price is £40 again on the website today.

I was looking at chairs & tried to collect some Fri but couldn't get there due to an accident. Web price £20. On Saturday, web price for the chair was £74.25. In-store, ticketed at £30. This morning, web price is £20 again.

No wonder they're struggling as a company.

Wow! Very impressive! Please post recipe and 'how to'. Thanks.

I just followed the Kellybab recipe.......

    Ingredients

1.8 kg boneless, skinless chicken thighs
    3 tbsp tomato puree
    4 garlic cloves, minced
Zest and juice of 2 lemons
    2 tsp onion granules
    2 tsp ground cumin
    1/2 tsp ground allspice
1 tbsp fresh thyme, finely chopped
3 tsp salt* *Will only use 1 x tsp next time
    2 tsp black pepper
    8 tbsp olive oil

Marinate overnight, slide on to the pole and once the coals are grey.....away you go....move up and down as required.
Its the best thing I have ever barbecued !

Just make sure that you have them on the spit in the order you want to take them off - ie the chicken will cook before the pork if it goes on at the same time - saves a bit of hassle as theres only the one handle.

I'll check out the FB page

Yes I noticed that most rotisserie attachments cost round about this price at the cheapest, when my wife seen this for £65 I told her (as a long time HUKDeal hunter) I would find a cheaper better one but nothing comes near it for quality /price so had to travel 11 miles back to Homebase for it! Really tempted by this - whats the best charcoal to use on this? I assume Briquettes? How often would you need to do fresh Briquettes for a 4-5 hour roast?

With 'Weber Briquettes' (avoid Supermarket briquettes) you should only need to top-up around 2 to 3 hours. Depends on ambient temperature and wind speed though.
The 'Santa Maria' grill (which this basically is) to be authentic you would tend to burn logs / wood.
However Briquettes should be fine, or a mix even.
Someone mentioned a Facebook group earlier, maybe worth joining?.

If they slip try putting an onion inside the chicken and put the rotisserie rod through the onion...

A rotisserie counter weight may help as well.....

Depends on where you purchase them from. Briquettes can be a funny one as onced crushed, they have a binder added. If they smoke a lot, they're probably not good. Examine the ashes/residue also. Some can be really gritty that would also suggest questionable filler added. Expecty around 6 quid for 4kg. I swear by Aussie heat beads and in fact they give me a longer cook pound for pound.

No reason why you can use lumpwood either. It does burn hotter for the most part and irregular shapes often mean temps are all over the place. Just try and keep an even bed of coals.

Try The Range if you're stuck. They do 5kg bags of Big K Lumpwood and Briquettes at £3.99 each. About the best value you'll find on the high-street.

The Ever Burning Charcoal that mentions is a lot better though, even if it is 50% more expensive.
