James Lakeland‘s passion for design began when working at his family’s manufacturing business which specialised in luxury suede and leather men’s and women’s wear. Here, Lakeland gained a grassroots understanding of the importance of quality, great design, interesting details and personal service, which inspired him to go on to launch his own label.
In 2000, Lakeland launched his first collection with his Mother, it was a capsule knitwear range, which focused on luxurious cashmere and wool blends in rich tonal shades. The knitwear collection gained widespread acclaim and its effortless yet elegant look went on to form the basis of James Lakeland’s mainline womenswear collection.
James has designed for Harrods Luxury and sold in global department stores including, Selfridges, Fenwick, House of Fraser, John Lewis and Coin.
Today the brand is defined by its innovative fabrics and unparalleled cuts: every piece in the collection undergoes a lengthy fit process to ensure flattering silhouettes throughout; prints used are exclusively developed for the brand; the label is continuously working to develop new materials. It is this emphasis on fabric and cutting edge design, creating shapes that hail the feminine form, which has allowed the brand to experience exponential success.
