A two-night stay at the Hotel du Vin could be yours with a slap-up meal and theatre tickets included
The banks of the River Tyne have never been so vibrant. World-class art galleries rub shoulders with high-end boutiques; buzzing cosmopolitan bars inhabit reclaimed industrial buildings and cutting-edge theatre productions share the bill with classical music events of the very highest quality.
It's time to discover NewcastleGateshead. With the looming threat of that pesky ash cloud and forecasters predicting the hot weather we missed out on last year (yes, really), there's never been a better summer to stick with the UK and plan a luxury trip to one of the country's most exciting cities.
This month the Guardian and Enjoy England have teamed up to offer one lucky Guardian reader the opportunity to get a taste of the north east's most dynamic city for themselves on a short break for two.
The prize includes a two-night stay at the luxurious Hotel du Vin, a relaxing haven of a hotel which is housed in the former maintenance depot of the Tyne Tees Steam Shipping Company a gorgeous, brick-built pile on the banks of the Tyne. Rooms here are stunning and feature every amenity known to mini-breakers including monsoon showers, luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets and plasma TVs as well as breathtaking views of the famous river and an unbeatable city centre location.
In addition to staying here, the winner will also get dinner on one evening in the Hotel du Vin Bistro, where the menu of classic European cuisine with a contemporary edge changes seasonally and is accompanied by an eclectic wine list chosen specifically to accompany the dishes on offer. Typical main courses include 250g dry aged rib eye steak served with pommes frites and bernaise or peppercorn sauce, and new season lamb with garlic, aubergine and samphire you won't leave hungry.
As if that weren't enough, the winner will also receive tickets to any show currently playing within the NewcastleGateshead area (subject to availability). They'll be able to choose between everything from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Whistle Down the Wind at the Theatre Royal to the Northern Sinfonia's special programme of classical music at The Sage Gateshead.
To be in with a chance of winning this prize, all you need to do is submit your details below (open to UK residents only). Good luck.
