Don't know why anyone would enter competitions on shortlist.com. I'm sure you would get lots of spam.

Quote from their T&C's:

"Details of entries will be kept on a database and may be used and passed to third parties to enable the processing of Competition and prize fulfilment. This information may be used by ShortList Media Ltd or the providers of the prize for marketing purposes."

Because you don't get spam - as most of the people who enter will testify, there have been a couple of winners of these competitions on MSE (Gibson Les Paul Guitar & £1,000 FCUK Voucher from my posts). The only bad thing about this shortlist comp is your inane comment. Looking through other comments it's not a one-off - "Looks like you would get plenty of spam from this", "This is sure to get you plenty of SPAM", "Don't like these shortlist.com competitions as they don't allow you to opt-out of marketing".

Just because you interpret T&Cs one way doesn't make you right, I enter every week & don't get any spam at all which actually makes you wrong.

Why is comment "inane" - I am entitled to my opinion and I don't like competitions that don't give you an option to opt-in or opt-out of marketing. I also feel that it is relevant to point out such terms to people in order to make up their own minds.

People who start their retorts with insults against the people commenting should understand that everyone is entitled to an opinion even if it is different to theirs.

ive been SPAM free too but never won :(

If you're worried about spam from them and have a Google Mail account you can make use of their feature whereby you can add a +shortlist bit onto your address (e.g. [email protected] will go to the address [email protected]">[email protected] as per normal) then you can filter on mail sent to [email protected] and put it into a specific folder and identify if spam has come from them!

This is the advantage of shortlist receiving the entries by email as you can always do this. It works with some form based competition entries but not all allow you to include a + in your address even though it is actually valid.
