Leon of Athens is indie pop with a hint of electro, a place where pastel folk elements are infiltrated with analogue synthesizers. The tracks are a reflection on a world that is full of optimism and opportunities, a world that wants to party, yet is simultaneously tainted with a deeper, provocative melancholy. The album boasts a mixture of electro pop, minimalist beats and logical arrangements, grounded with a more organic folk element.
The sounds vary from the pumped up immediacy of recent singles Baby Asteroid and Global to the more digitally minimalist offerings of Pilot and Sirens or the folk infused edge in tracks such as Lifeline or Slow Down, a song depicting the circumstances of a country in cultural turmoil. In Apartment, interchanges take place like a dance, with fluctuations and arrangements that reach deeply inside and remind us of moments where you first became detached from your umbilical chord, the first taste of floating in outerspace.
Timoleon Veremis, living in London, is originally from Athens in Greece. He's developed a sound evolved during time spent living in the city's counter cultural quarter Exarchia. His material, first released in Greece, was inspired by a country in crisis, making headlines there and as far afield as the New York Times and within just a few months he was playing to audiences of over 10,000. He has many influences, including: MGMT, Grizzly Bear, M83, St Vincent, Talking Heads, Brian Eno and Daft Punk.
In the UK he has been building interest with many magazines including: Q Magazine (Track of the Day), Clash Magazine (Premiere), Record of the Day, Subba Cultcha (Artist of the Week) Amazing Radio (Record of the Week - Gill Mills) and God is in the TV (Track of the Day). The album Global heralds a more optimistic style, opening up to themes of love, fantastical dreams and ideas, all drawn together by a social documentary style.
