You will explore Utah’s canyons, lakes and national parks on this amazing 12-day trip

Picture plunging sandstone canyons and snow-capped mountain peaks, majestic salt lakes and endless expanses of rolling desert. This is the rugged and varied terrain of Utah, a region ready-made for adventure and exploration.
In conjunction with the Utah Office of Tourism, we’re offering a reader and their guest a 12-day road trip through this scenic state, rich in history and culture.

The prize includes flights to Salt Lake City, courtesy of United Airlines, 12 days’ car hire and 11 nights’ accommodation, with breakfast, a well as optional activities in each location and the use of an experienced guide where included.

After arriving in Salt Lake City, you’ll pick up your car and head north to Davis County, the gateway to the Great Salt Lake, where you’ll spend the night. Your adventure will begin the next day with a drive to Antelope Island State Park, offering 25 miles of hiking and biking trails, and home to bison, deer, antelope and a variety of birdlife. You’ll have the chance to go horse riding among the herds of bison, but if you prefer to take things easier, you can take a dip in the lake and enjoy the scenery from the lake’s white-sand beach.

Next stop is Arches National Park, one of the Southwest’s most beautiful parks, with the greatest concentration of sandstone arches in the world. Get up close to these impressive rock formations, such as the much-photographed Delicate Arch, with a short hike.

You’ll have the chance to recharge your batteries with a night in Moab, Utah’s recreation capital, and can spend the evening sampling some of the region’s cuisine in one of the many restaurants before the next leg of your trip – two days’ river rafting on the Colorado River. You’ll be in the care of Tag-A-Long Expeditions and its experienced professional guides. Navigating 100 miles through Canyonlands National Park, this is white-water rafting as intense and exciting as you’ll find anywhere in the world. The night will be spent camping under the stars beside the river.

Following your second day of rafting, you’ll head to the tiny town of Bluff, founded by Mormon pioneers in 1880. Bluff is surrounded by red rock and makes the perfect base from which to explore Monument Valley, the next destination on your trip.

Biking, hiking, skiing and rafting. It’s also great driving country and the perfect place for a road trip.
