If you have played the "Blur" Multiplayer demo already, or even if you have not, after 5pm today (well, from now onwards) until 25 August 2010, I urge you to download it (again) & reach rank #5 or above (rank #10 is the highest you can achieve in the demo).

I bought the game on the strength of the demo; one of the better demos I have downloaded from the 'Store... a good couple of hours of free gaming... & now with the added option of winning a car!

Will it take long to get to that level?

I played for between 2 & 3 hours initially to reach rank #6 (I think). The following day I played for another couple of hours to reach rank #10. In that time my kids took over my controller for a couple of races, so the actual time taken to reach rank #5 was probably only 90 to 120 minutes.

I wasn't really rushing to get there either, so if you know you need to reach a certain rank to be eligible for entry to the competition it may take you less time.

I played well beyond reaching the highest rank ('#10) in the demo version as I liked the game & now own the full version.

[EDIT]: Oh yes, and subject to the position you come in each race courtesy of the other players online at the time (as scrooge rightly points out below). You need to finish as one of the first three in a race to gain points to advance to the next rank. [/EDIT]

Took me about 45 minutes and 11 games to hit level 5, can be done quicker depending how quickly you get the hang of it and the opposition of course.

Cheers FP, I will put on my driving gloves and get right on it.

yeah multi player online, won't take too long to reach level 5.
It's a very good game.

Sorry I thought I was explicit enough in the title of this thread & the specific merchant I had selected; yes, there is a single version of the demo of the game to download from the PlayStation Network (via the PlayStation Store). It is 2,048MB in size.

PS. After I download the demo again to my console that had already had the previous version (the non-competition entry version) installed (& then removed when I bought the full version of the game), I received the following error message after 14% of the installation process:

"An error occurred during the install operation
(80029564)."

I tried removing the saved game data that still remained on my hard drive following the removal of the previous version & tried again. I tried four times in total & each time I just ended up with "Corrupt Data" in the "Game" menu of my XrossMediaBar.

I eventually just removed the 2,048MB installation file & I have not tried to re-download it again since; so I have not entered the competition I listed. (Typical!).

There is a thread on this error message at the US PlayStation.com Forum:

BoardsUS.PlayStation.com

(But no resolution even after contacting Sony's Customer Support)

I may try to download the demo again on a different PS3 console that has not had the previous version installed. I had a similar experience with a Beta version of "M.A.G" (Massive Action Game) last year & nobody on the Official European PlayStation Blog offered any suitable guidance either.

I'm hoping it was just a corrupted download, but I thought I would mention it in case anybody else had a similar issue.

RESULT! :)

I tried playing the (new) Multiplayer Demo (after updating it to version 1.01) on another console this morning & when the game started the text on-screen relayed that I had been entered into the competition.

I joined a game & found that my previous rank (#10) was still stored so I had nothing extra to do in order to qualify.

I stayed for a few races though & I could have stayed longer but apparently I needed to go to work today.

I really must get back to the full version of "Blur" though.

Mind you,I have "Split/Second: Velocity" to finish, "Naughty Bear" to carry on with, "Need for Speed SHIFT" to open (since I purchased it last December), & I bought the Collector's Edition of "Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands" last week (so that is two games; the lead title, & the 'Classic' "Prince of Persia") to play as well.

Oh yes, and the ongoing HotUKDeals clans for "Killzone 2" [PS3] & "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" [PS3] [Xbox 360] [PC].

Darn! I hope I don't win the car now... I'll never be able to fit it into my busy gaming life! :)

[PS. If you are reading Mr or Mrs Sony representative-type person; I didn't mean that... I'm in the market for a new car anyway. Please include me. Pretty please. Pretty please with sugar & a cherry on top. I am trying to avoid buying the recent "Monkey Island" Special Editions... honest, I am!)

Good luck with your respective entries everyone.

BFN,

fp.
