You could be a steam driver for a day - and see some of the world's endangered animals at the same time.
Heritage Railway is offering you the chance to win a silver steam driving course at the Great Whipsnade Railway at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire.
The course, worth £270, includes the opportunity to drive the train on the 2ft 6 in gauge heritage railway and go behind the scenes at the railway's yard. The railway runs past Indian rhinos, Asian elephants, camels and deer as they go about their daily business.
The occasion will also be a great day out for the rest of the family and you will be given the opportunity to drive the train whilst they are aboard! There will be the opportunity to shovel coal, test the brakes, couple carriages and handle the controls of the steam locomotive. There will be a full health and safety briefing upon arrival and the experience includes a complementary lunch and plenty of cups of tea and coffee to keep them going!
The experience is suitable to both beginners and those who have driven a steam locomotive before. The railway is currently home to two locomotives, Kerr Stuart 1920-built Baretto class 0-6-2T Superior and 1908-built Brazil class 0-4-2ST Excelsior.
The dates for the 'Be a Steam Train Driver for a Day' experience the week commencing 11 October, between 9am to 3.30pm.
