Helsinki is Finland's capital and despite being one of Europe's most modern and culturally progressive cities, it remains close to it's intriguing history, spanning back over 450 years. There are no high rise buildings and the market square is still surrounded by 19th-century architecture. Its green parks and waterways, fresh seawinds with seagulls flying over the busy market square, and many open-air cafes make it an intriguing destination. It's often referred to as 'The Pearl of the Baltic' due to it's clean and healthy environment and in a recent report, Helsinki was officially confirmed as the cleanest capital city in Europe!**

To celebrate this fact, one lucky person will win a weekend away to Helsinki for two, courtesy of Domestos. Prize includes accommodation in a four star hotel, flights and travel insurance. Closing date: 31/10/2007

I've added heat even though you couldn't actually pay me enough money to stay in Helsinki..............been there, done it.

I think I read somewhere that it has the highest suicide rate per capita in the world.

It really is quite depressing............24hr darkness during winter and even in summer it's very grey and dreary.

Still, a freebie's a freebie!
