The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings contains many different paths and storylines, along with multiple endings. As in the first game, the player takes control of Geralt of Rivia, one of the few remaining witchers. Witchers are humans that have been genetically enhanced and trained to fight monsters from a young age. They have special powers, different in each witcher. These include alchemy, magic, and sword handling.
Rivia features a mature, non-linear narrative that sees him in a quest to reveal the identity of a group of assassins responsible for the assassination of rulers across the Northern Kingdoms. He must discover what connects the killers to the Witchers. During the quest Rivia (and the gamer) will travel along the river Pontar into the borders of Temeria, Kaedwen and Aedrin, where he must do battle with dark and powerful forces to reveal the truth.
