The Garden Bird Haven Gift Pack
National Nest Box Week (14th-21st February) aims to encourage everyone of put a nest box up in time for the start of their breeding season. Organised by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), Britain’s leading bird research charity, it has been taking place since 1997.
Many of the natural nest sites on which a lot of our bird species depend, such as holes in trees and buildings, are fast disappearing as gardens and woods are ‘tidied’ and old houses are repaired. The loss of woodland habitat has also played a part.
Since its launch, thousands of enthusiastic British naturalists have put up boxes to compensate for this loss. It is estimated that there are now 5-6 million nest boxes in gardens across the UK.
