You're now travelling faster than the speed of light - that's theoretically impossible :D

now thats a matter of opinion... pick a fault in this theory... :D

now lets assume that we can travel at just over half the speed of light...

if someone travels away from me at only 51% of the speed of light...

& someone else travels at 51% of the speed of light in the opposite direction...

to me & to them, both would still only traveling at 51% of the speed of light, but...

to each other, they would be traveling apart at 102% of the speed of light if the distance/time was calculated... :?

meaning that I can see both of them, but the 2 travellers couldnt see each other or know of each others existence as they are traveling apart faster than the light being emitted from them... 8)

therefore, the speed of light is only relevant to a particular observer

basically, our measuring stick has restrictions & varies, depending on who is doing measuring...

the same would also be in the reverse... I could see them both coming at me at 51% SoL... they couldnt see each other since they would be traveling towards each other faster than any reflected light, yet they would still collide at over the speed of light...

whats wrong with this theory... ? :D:D:D

You've got sunglasses on?

was that it... was that all... :(

I can tell you are a 'Douglas Adams' fan... :D

thats like waiting for 'deep thought' (out of hitchhikers guide) for 10,000 years to answer the ultimate question 'what is the meaning of life, the universe & everything... and he came back with the answer '42'... :D:D:D:D:D

Btw, didnt 'Arthur Dent' have a need for sunglasses & a towel wrapped around his head... :D

:D:D:D bet nobody said to einstein, 'You've got sunglasses on?' :D:D:D

I'd agree with that answer but he probably said fortitude + was misheard.

I don't know Arthur Dent either :| Guess he never made an impression on me  even if I would know him by seeing a picture. Which I just did :D So I'll definitely have to watch any HGTTG should they put any on telly [I think they will, as they say they're making a movie of it, starring Martin Freeman [The Office]] usually makes them show the older versions or series :)

:D:D:D bet nobody said to einstein, 'You've got sunglasses on?' :D:D:D
Theoretically, sunglasses are relative to the subject 8) Reflecting on this [or that!] lightheartedly of course ;)

So.... Is the answer to your question "if they glance behind themselves, they would see the other person coming or going, as they would have reached the point where they got there before the light did + so could also see themselves"?

I don't know if I'm coming or going already

Would love this telescope by the way :D

And there was I thinking jcat had posted to say "I won".....

Having read all that lot, I'm totally confused  But yes, I did know who Douglas Adams is :) Think I'll go to bed, I'm no Einstein

I remember one of Douglas Adams creations.

The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal

A rather large creature that likes to eat things.

The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast is so mind-bogglingly stupid that it thinks that if you can't see it, it can't see you. Therefore, the best defense against a Bugblatter Beast is to wrap a towel around your head.

oh, must not forget the poor little Babel Fish.

The Babel Fish is small, yellow and leech-like, and probably the oddest thing in the Universe. It feeds on brainwave energy not from its carrier, but from those around it. It absorbs all unconscious mental frequencies from this brainwave energy to nourish itself with. It then excretes into the mind of its carrier a telepathic matrix formed by combining the conscious thought frequencies with nerve signals picked up from the speech centres of the brain which has supplied them. The practical upshot of all this is that if you stick a Babel fish in your ear you can instantly understand anything said to you in any form of language. The speech patterns you actually hear decode the brainwave matrix which has been fed into your mind by your Babel fish.

The Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.
