Director Bong Joon-ho follows the masterful Memories of Murder with The Host, an unconventional monster movie that completely transcends the genre. Korean superstar Song Kang-ho plays Park Gang-Du, a middle-aged waster who cares for his teenage daughter in the absence of his estranged wife. Whilst working at his Dad's food stand, Gang-Du joins a crowd of people throwing rubbish into the Han River and before he knows it a giant mutant is running amuck digesting the terrified masses. When the beast snatches Gang-Du's daughter, his family try their best to unite and rescue their lost kin before it's too late. Throw in a conspiracy plot involving the Americans, a healthy dose of humour, scathing social satire and some fantastic CGI, and you've got the best movie of its kind since Q The Winged Serpent
