Don't think it is real 12Mpix as it should have resolution of 4000x3000 for this.
I guess it CAN take pictures of 12Mpix or, most likely it is 1.2Mpix, which still quite good for the price.
Note that 10% off doesn't apply to Collect at Store.

I'll let you know tomorrow when I get it.

Yes please!

No way is it even 1.2MP - I'm guessing it's the same low resolution 16:9 display 480x234 or similar. I've no idea whose bright idea it was to make all these photo frames widescreen when most cameras are not widescreen. I reckon your first guess is correct and it will downsample 12MP photos which seems rather pointless as it's just going to waste space.

Searching on the model number returns a mustek branded one so it may well be a rebadged mustek. Details here at amazon
#5
From the amazon specs:

7 In Color TFT LCD Digital Photo Viewer

Multifunction Device Displays photos, Plays Music Files/USB Connectivity

Compatible w/SD, MMC, Memory Stick, and CF Memory Cards

Support Up to 12MP Image Files /JPEG File Format

4.5 Lbs (WxLxH) 5.9" x 8.3" x 1.8"
So it supports up to 12mp files!!!Not a bad price too:thumbsup:

If this is indeed Mustek frame, then it is 480x234. What is the point of displaying 12Mpix image on 0.11Mpix screen?

See specification.

It supports 12mp files just like it supports 1mp, 2mp, 3mp etc. etc. files... it just means it can show images that are up to 12mp in size, but downsizes them for display. It's a cheap trick to suck unsuspecting people in. Like John said it'll almost certainly be 480x234 and hence look pretty cr*p, like the hundreds of others out there.

thinking about getting one for my Nanna with lots of photos one.

I read somewhere these things cant be on 24/7 i.e. not more than 8 hours at a time.

Does this apply to all of them or just models I seen - what bout this one?

Well the description actually states 12Megapixel display and it shows that on the item description screen and the specification screen.
I've printed this out and if its only a 480*234 frame (only 0.1Megapixels) then they will be getting it back. To be honest I'm hoping its a 1.2 Megapixel screen.

I think you're wasting your time to be honest, the model number corresponds to the Mustek frame as does the price/size combination.

Yeah I think this is the standard Mustek rebrand so about standard price for that.

To be honest I think all of you that are posting links and stating its the mustek one are jumping the gun.
It is advertised as 12 Megapixel Display not can display 12 Megapixel images - very different. Yes it could be a misprint on the description but then again it might be a misprint and be 1.2Megapixels in which case its still a very good price.
OK it might be the mustek one, then again it might not be.
Why not wait until I get it tomorrow and make a judgement then.

You're being rather optimistic - small, high resolution displays are expensive.

Hi just found this review:

97 of 99 people found the following review helpful:

The Frame Is Fine, The Users Unrealistic Expectations Are The Problem, December 3, 2006
Reviewer: J. Rueffer (Naperville, IL United States) - See all my reviews

I bought this as a Black Friday special to give as a Christmas present. So far, FOR THE PRICE, I am pretty happy with the frame. I also picked up a SanDisk 1GB sd card to use in the frame to store images on. Here's my thoughts so far:
1) The frame is pretty intuitive to operate, I was able to get it up and running without reading the directions.
2) I suppose having a usb drive sticking out of the frame would be noticeable but the sd card and compact flash cards are not noticeable when inserted, so go drop $15 on an SD card and be done with it. As for the item not having any internal memory, that was a trade-off that Mustek made to achieve a lower price-point. Personally, I like the flexibility of just being able to pop the SD card out and throw it in my computer's card reader.
3) Yes the native resolution appears to be 480x342. If you have tons of photos to resize Microsoft has an "image resizer" powertoy that will let you resize them all at once for free at [...] To keep the correct aspect ratio, resize the pictures to 456x342 or 480x360 and then crop out 18 pixels on the top or bottom. The reason for the resizing of the pictures is twofold: a) you fit more pictures on a card this way and b) smaller pictures have no delay in load time (i.e., you don't have to wait for pictures to load, after picture A has been displayed for 5 seconds (or whatever interval you choose) picture B loads right away, whereas large pictures take additional time to load because the frame's cpu has to resize the picture itself).
4) No the frame is not as high a resolution as you would get with a laptop display, but for 1/4 the price of a laptop, an expectation that the picture would be that sharp is unrealistic.
5) Of course this item is going to have a power cord, display panels are energy hogs and having a li-ion or nimh battery for this frame that would probably only last a few hours and wear out eventually anyways would put the frame's price-point well over $100.

I'll just close by saying I am happy with this item, and I think the recipient of this gift will be happy with it as well. It irritates me that this item is getting a bad rap not because the item is bad but more because the people who purchased the item did so with unrealistic expectations.

So guys this isn't 12 megapixels!:-(

Do you have an idea how much 4000x3000 costs? There is no chance for anyone to get 12Mpix screen for this money. A couple of thousands maybe.
#14
I think 1.2MP is the current hope but even then that's a high resolution for the price.

FRAME10OFF gives 10% off, so a fiver if you buy 1. Also, this discount only appears to work for delivery rather than collect in store. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Most buyers don't have the nous to convert pics to the optimum format. This allows high end DSLR but PC illiterate owners to simply take the card from the camera and plug it in. I know a number of people who spent over a £1000 on a camera but only ever take the cards to Boots for some 6x4... Go figure.

I thought that the whole point of having DSLR is to take pictures in RAW with maximum quality possible and then do postprocessing in Photoshop or the likes? :)
#19
can you leave this thing on 24/7?

If anyone has picked one up from store yet can you give us your opinion please.

Not really, there's many reasons for SLRs especially since even compact point and shoots support RAW. SLRs give you a proper optical viewfinder, virtually no shutter lag, better performance at high ISO and shallower depth of field to name a few.

Thinking of buying one of these soon but am now v. confused

It is for older relative. I have a compact digital camera. Some of you seem to be experts re the pixels but for a very non techie can someone explain the problem with this product :-D

Am I right to assume it is the quality of the pics displayed, not sharp enough??
1 Like #23
Hi just means the quality displayed on the photo frame wont be as clear as you see it on the camera or the pc becasue the frame is lower quality picture standard than the file you are putting on it so wont be as good hope it helps ED
1 Like #24
thanks for that info. Do you say this from a photography point of view, poor quality pics? or would anybody else think they were that bad. In which case it might be a good buy for grandparents. i.e pics not ultra sharp but good enough to view, or are they blurred.
#25
A frame of the same resolution is only £35.23 inc vat at ebuyer
http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/125778

Its available in white too. The reviews don't seem to rate it too bad ( one person comments that its much better than a similar model he owned). It has a remote too ( not that you need one with a picture frame).
If you take your order over £49.99 then delivery is free ( so £70.46 delivered for two of them)
#26
:-D Thanks for the info that they display the pics just fine, as you say on a shelf and do the job. Happy to buy one now. I know I am a bit dense when it comes to techie stuff....like below!!

v2drinkers
After all a resolution of 480*234 on a 7" screen is a hell of a lot better than the resolution of those HD LCD screens 1366*768 on a 32" screen.

Reminds me of friend few yrs ago who spent a fortune on new speakers and was very upset that nobody noticed the difference in the sound quality. We only heard good music

Happy to pay of for quality but not if it's not if a cheaper version does the same job
