Instore O2 are now matching Asda's price and doing the Galaxy Tab for £299. This offer is only available instore as online is still showing at £399.

There's also a free case being advertised for this subject to stock availability. It's the Griffin Elan case which is this one:

http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/elan-passport-galaxy-tab

EDIT: This is now available online also for the same price. You need to scroll down the page a bit further to get it for the £299 without the sim price.

Good to see the price of this starting to come down, it was way overpriced to start with & still is IMHO. I'm personally holding on for the ZTE Light 2 which should be out in about 3 months http://www.itproportal.com/2011/03/18/zte-light-2-7-inch-tablet-takes-samsung-galaxy-tab-uses-pixel-qi-screen/ - it has a Pixel Qi Screen which is readable even in direct sunlight.

for the same price you can get the original ipad. Don't touch this tablet with a stick. Even if you dont like Apple stay away from this one. Its slow and runs on an outdated OS that will not be updated.

I have one and I wouldn't say it is sluggish, it handles what I throw at it. Where as the Asda deal was unlocked, I presume this will be limited to O2/GiffGaff/Tesco Mobile? Hot deal.

this is a good device and this price is closer to what samsung should have launched it as
If it was launched at £199 or £250 it would have been a best seller. Now samsung have missed the boat.

I would say the original ipad is better but you can NOT get an original ipad with 3G for this price. It will be £130 more.

There are some reasons to get this over the ipad:
1. Smaller and lighter - useful when carrying around in a back pack
2. Access to the android market. Although doesn't have as good games as the apple one, is unregulated and has alot more fun stuff
3. More configurable and "muck-aroundable" then the ipad

Comparing apples with oranges. This is smaller & more portable, has 3G & a different OS & much less limited in terms of what you can do to it.

It is definitely on. It went live on Saturday. It's a pity they're giving out the incorrect information.

Custom ROMs from MoDaCo or XDA don't count as official firmware upgrades. With Samsung's track record of keeping their devices up to date with the latest version of Android, don't expect an update any time soon.

If you want to hack around and install custom ROMs this is probably one of the best deals, but don't go around assuming every other user wants or can do it. You're a small minority in the grand scheme of things.

Utter Tosh. Its a great phone/tablet. Handles everything I can throw at it. As for it running an 'outdated OS', it runs on android 2.2(Froyo), which is current. Yes, gingerbread is being released, but so far not many phones have it. As for Honeycomb, well, only a cpl of tablets have it so far.

Not everyone likes apple. Not everyone likes android. No need for fanboy comments though.

Whilst you do have a point, regarding unofficial roms/updates, theres nothing wrong with Froyo. I have Froyo on mine, and its not sluggish at all.
As I've seen written elsewhere, If you buy a gadget based on what it may or may not be able to do in the future, then you are a fool. Buy the gadget based on what it can do right now.

Decent little device is you need the 3g. Stick in a 3 PAYG data sim and you are good to go. I still think the screen is too small personally, Ipad is the same money for a refurb and has a better interface, but no flash etc. Advent vega is £100 less if you dont need the 3g and want a bigger screen.

Bit of a meh device this for me unless you need the 3g.

I think this is only for the 1st. its not on the O2 systems yet

the key here is size.

If you think the ipad is too big and heavy and a smartphone's screen is too small, then this is the ideal thing to throw in your backpack

If you are happy surfing on your smartphone then don't bother

The problem with that is a 3.x inch screen mobile will often be £400+ off contract- look at the price of the Nokia N8 for example. Are you seriously saying that this should have been half the price of a normal smartphone from the start?
#23
Now phoned Manchester and there not offering this also, Where did this offer go live? and how do you know? do you have any form of proof?

he only has a point regarding the new wifi version that is being released, current pre-order price of £299 on amazon.
He hasnt factored in that the standard glaxy tab is also a phone, thus has more intrinsic value.
#25
Can anyone else verify?
#26
I dont know how true this is but taken from here...

There's something else puzzling -- and rather worrying for early adopters of Android tablets -- in the Mobile-review.com article. Writer Eldar Murtazin claims to have some information on the licensing agreement signed by Android tablet makers. Here's the relevant sentence, roughly translated: "The producer who created a device in OS version 2.x, cannot update it to 3.0."

Hot, this an excellent tab that even holds advantages over the the newer honeycomb tablets in that it is divx certified and so can play 720p mkv files =D

If you wait till Friday you'll have less issues as some people are having issues with getting stores to honour it despite there been communciation sent out to stores that price matching Asda/Best Buy was available on this.
#32
This deal isnt live in all stores.
#33
I know the title says instore only butttt do you think this will be available as an upgrade directly from o2 (over the phone)? I will call tomorrow but would be great if someone knew tonight :P

Not the 3G version (this has 3G) and no iPad has phone capabilities (this does).

I own a vega which has been dropped to £200.00 now, which i am very happy with, as its running the madoca rom. Would you pay an extra 100 quid for 3g and a smaller screen? Not me, and i guess o2 are locking you down to a 18/24 month contract for a tablet that you would not really use as a phone.
#36
check the HFX store yesterday, no offer as yet, will call the BFD store friday evening and see what the jig is

there is a procedure on xda-developesr to unlock
its not trivial though

I bought the tab a couple of months ago. I hardly ever use my netbook or my laptop or my dedktop any more, and I upgraded to 5gb data allowance from three for £8 per month, which means I can watch as much iplayer and slingplayer as I want when I am out and about. Annoying things were I had to buy a dedicated car charger for twenty quid, and the browser struggles with some busy/messy sites.

Do you use the standard browser or a 3rd party one like dolphin/opera?

If you want to charge using usb from pc this is a nifty gadget: Adapter for Samsung Galaxy Tab - USB/USB Adapter

Also, I find the Miren Browser to work best, with skyfire a close second. they both beat the stock browser hands-down.
