1.5m Philips HDMI cable - 77p Instore at Tesco

Went to Tesco to look at prices of HDMI cables for my PS3.

Saw a 1.5M Philips one reduced from around £5 to £3.06. It's not a gold one but for the moment it did for me.

Went through the till at 77p!

Bargain I thought!

Watched a blu-ray film on it last night and didn't look to be anything wrong with the quality but i will still be getting a gold plated one online soon!

I do have a pic of the productt and the reciept as proof but i haven't worked out how to upload them yet sorry.

Pointless getting a gold plated one if that one is working fine.

Good deal - but there is no point changing it later to a gold plated one.
HDMI is digital - it either works or it doesn't.

Hopefully in more than 1 store

I thought gold made no difference as HDMI is a digital signal - the 77p one is as good as a £77 one!

That's what I thought - as long as it can handle the latest HDMI (is is version 1.3?) then all cables are equal. Same as optical digital. Sony Center tried to sell me ones from £30 up to £50. Got one in Maplin for £6.99. It either carries a light signal, or it doesn't.

Don't waste your money on gold plated digital cables!!!

It doesn't a digital signal works or it doesn't as has been proved by tests all over the place, if it didn't work you'd have errors in the stream which would show up with sound gltiches or pixellation if you don't get those then spending xx on an all singing all dancing gold plated comes with a pint of beer in a solid gold pint glass HDMI cable is pointless, unlike the analogue cables people are getting suckered in when it DID matter with the analogue connections when you could get variable quality

great find, rep added . Glod plate does not make a difference but there are many versions with different spec mainly different Maximum signal and video bandwidth as well as the color depth. I would suggest only buying version 1.3 and 1.4 and not the 1 or 1.2.

None at the Tesco Hayes...:(

Just visited 2 Tesco's in East London, Leytonstone & Woodford. They only seem to stock their own brand or Technika.

HDMI cables route digital electrical signals between equipment. A digital signal is a pulse of voltage which is sent and detected by the equipment as either ‘high’ or ‘low’ as opposed to an analogue signal which could be at any level between ‘high’ and ‘low’. Digital signals are therefore either ‘there’ or ‘not there’ and so are less sensitive to electrical noise than an analogue signal, for example old record players were plagued with mains hum picked by the input wiring from the [analogue] pick-up cartridge. Mains hum would not affect a digital signal. Gold plating on the HDMI cable pins will help make good electrical connection at the plugs and sockets [it doesn’t tarnish], and would be helpful on analogue as well as digital cables. If I was going to couple two pieces of HDMI equipment less than a couple of metres apart, I would use a cheap cable, less than fiver. If the cable was regularly being pulled in and out or run under a carpet and walked on etc I would be tempted to spend a bit more for a mechanically stronger cable. £100 cables should be reserved for those who can hear the difference between open and closed curtains in their viewing room.

Hi Guys

Sorry, I forgot to say, I got this from Tesco in Meir Park in Stoke on Trent.

Not sure whether it's a local store incorrect pricing but there was a post on here the other day for Oceans Eleven on Blu-Ray, it was marked up as £5 but went through the till at £3

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/526827/oceans-11-bluray-3-in-store-tesco

My point is that that wasn't store specific then...

I will upload pic of the actual receipt later today.

once more thing to point it. It wasn't in a box on the shelf but it was on a hanger between the TV's.

Hope this helps.

:-)

Was in Tesco at the weekend looking for an HDMI cable, and didn't see these. Ended up paying nearly £5 for a Tesco branded one. Presumably not all stores then?
#18
The only problem you get sometimes with lower quality HDMI cables is if it is poorly sheilded is the odd white speckles on the screen.

In theory. In practice the difference is/was still un-noticeable but people still waste(d) their money on overpriced cables because they delude(d) themselves into thinking that they sound(ed) better.

Gold plated hdmi LOLOLOLOLOL

Its like having a gold plated optical cable LOL
#21
No, it's not that stupid - as it could in theory make a contact better, unlike with a gold plated optical connector. It is still a marketing ploy used to hook the gullible though.

Then it's broken. Take it back for a refund.

So, just to get back to the subject of the thread, and away from the relative merits of different hdmi cables, apart from the OP, has anyone actually got one of these at the scorching hot 77p price, or is this a one off so far.?
1 Like #24
I agree with Copperface. Has ANYONE other than the op been able to buy one of these? I mean this has hit the Top Five for todays hot deals and we haven't had a single person other that the OP telling us they have got one. Yes it's a great deal for the OP if he got one at 77p but is that worthy of all this heat if only he got one? Surely the whole point of the site is to share information on deals in order that many can benefit.

On a related note, can I also suggest to the Mods (put your deaf ears on Mods! ), couldn't we have something in the posting section which requires the 'actual store' to be inserted into the description section or somewhere? It's so frustrating for EVERYONE when they're trying to track down a hot deal and they don't know which store it is. There are plenty of these types of things that are 'store specific' and making posters give the actual store will alleviate a lot of the frustration and pointless hunting if the store is no where near you. You may well wish to hunt in your own Tesco, Asda, PC World, Aldi etc etc but knowing the actual store would make a difference. I appreciate that not all deals are 'in store' but there is a section that asks if the product is 'in store/online/both'.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion but as I say I think it would make a big difference to us all.

These are in some stores as they are at my local branch, but for £1.37. Nearly got one last night.

Hope this helps you to find one, i think i'll be going back to get another couple at this price!

Just to add to my previous post, it would also be interesting to see 'who' expires a post as has happened here.

Blasphemous

At the time of posting, I was in a rush and forgot to add the store name and you will see that later i did add the actual store name. I also hadn't got time to take pics of the product or the receipt and again i did this later in the day.

I see so many people complaing about people not putting this, people not putting that.....i do wonder why many bother to add things on here if people are just going to question it all the time. Then where would we be? With no hot deals thats where...

I don't mind what people add as long as it's a genuine post as this is...

oh....and i wonder who did expire this cos i'm sure if i go back into the store in a few days the cables are still at 77p!

so...it's a hot deal!

:-)

apologies Mods but sometimes somethings just have to be said....

gaz, I wasn't getting at you mate. I was trying to point out that if there was a requirement to insert the 'actual store' when posting a deal then nobody could forget, it's easily done. My second post related to 'expiries'. If we could see who expired a thread we could ask them 'why' they took the unilateral decision to do so.

Proving the post is applicable to more than one store and that this SHOULD NOT have been expired.

There has been NO response either here or PM'd to me from a Mod or Admin on my suggestions. I think it just shows the supercilious attitude of the lot of them.

No problem :-)

stick your hand out and lets shake...lol

just about to go out to a local store by me as i think i'll try and get another one. looks like other people are getting these for about £1.5o for the same product in some tesco stores.

I got 2 of these in Tesco at Eastbourne today. They're not in a packet - just with a cable tie round them. Marked on the shelf as being 77p.

And yet this is STILL expired! The arrogance of the Mods doesn't permit them to address such trivial things as members questions and/or whether a deal is still live or not.

If a post needs to be unexpired please use the report button http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/custom_buttons/report.gif to actually let us know as we can't scan every thread. Unexpired now - it was reposted by 'kevjosant' (spotted in a County Antrim Store) so I've spammed the newer duplicate & unexpired this post.

Could you update the message "Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts." accordingly do you think, please? It would avoid confusion.
