For info, I have both the 1TB and 2TB versions of this drive. The 1TB model sits in my Sky HD box and the 2TB is used within my NAS drive. Both are very quiet. The 1.5TB version should perform exactly the same.

that's the EcoGreen F3....

Yes, lower power, lower noise. They are ideal for devices you need to keep quiet, or leave on all of the time.

I will edit the original post so as not to confuse people. This drive runs at 5,400rpm rather than 7,200rpm of Samsungs Hi-Performance drives.

Edited By: Orville on Jul 22, 2010 03:16: Typo - I originally wrote 5,200rpm instead of 5,400rpm.

I think the Sky HD boxes did not like drives over 1TB. Voted HOT, great drive at a good price.

Sounds like a good deal to me, nobody should be buying these drives for OS installs anyway, more for storage, so the slower rpm shouldn't be an issue for most. Heat added, nice find.:)

Wow, hard drvies are getting very cheap, hot

Remember that these 5,400rpm drives are as fast or faster than most 2 year old 7,200rpm drives. The high platter density means more data can be read on a single rotation than is possible on lower density 7,200rpm drives. The big benifits of the EcoGreen drives are low noise, low heat, and ~30% less power consumption. Lower rpm also means less vibration so the discs should be more reliable as well.

...but if you need ultimate speed forget drives with moving parts and buy a recent SSD instead.

Great deal,
not so sure about scans website,
I managed to get the item through the today only section and through the normal search at two different prices at 59.09 and 55.21.

That's why the OP said it's in the today only section.

You have to buy today only offers through the today only page, and not the product page.

Top deal. I have been after a large hard drive to go in my Windows Home Server box for a while. Heat added :)

What were you thinking? RAID 1 I assume?

I'd have thought it would be fine to mix them, it's more about the storage capacity than the performance. However, I'll point out that the F2 model like you already have is also available on the today only page for only £56.39 if that would be easier.

Raid 1 is all I need.

That's perfect. Thanks for responding.

Great price :) HOT

Very average deal if you don't get free delivery.
#24
Why is this expired?
Still same price and in stock...

Very average deal if you don't get free delivery.
ANYONE with the ability to register on a forum and make a few posts can get free delivery.
If you can't do this there's just no hope for you.
#25
This deal is still available. Can a mod please unexpire?
#26
Not sure why this has been expired, have just ordered one!!
#27
Is there a process to reinstate incorrectly expired threads?

Banning the idiots that expire threads for no reason in the first place would be a good preventative measure :D .

I think a mod needs to see this to un-expire it.

For future reference I beleive there's a thread on the forums to post in.

Or you have to create one asking the mods to unexpire the deal.

Has to be done by OP

At least thats how it used to work I think ;)

Expired for not including postage, not everyone can get it for free (in fact most can't without wasting time), therefore the quoted price is misleading.
I missed this reply, but I would say that the vast majority of people here are clever enough to follow the simple instruction listed in my OP to obtain free delivery. It only takes a minute or two, and delivery will then be free for all future Scan purchases. Scan tend to be pretty good on pricing so it is dumb not to waste a few minutes registering if you buy computer equipment. Free delivery offer is open to everyone.

If you couldn't work it out, you should have asked how. I would have helped.

...anyway, the deal has legitimately expired now due to price increase.

I cannot be bothered to bite.
