yes and with SCAN you might be lucky and get a few wraps of bubblewrap to protect your HDD in it's CityLink plastic shpping bag !!

Don't know what Ebuyer does these days - but SCAN seem to not care much about protecting your valuable purchases against courier treatment.

HDD'S SHOULD BE PACKAGED WITH FOAM INSERTS INSIDE A SEPERATE BOX - ONE FOR EACH HDD!

Buy from SCAN at your own risk !

Mine from ebuyer arrived in a juffy bag....and nothing else, was DOA.
I guess they can be as bad as each other lol

Buy from EBUYER at your own rick !

...although technically it's always at their risk as they have to replace or refund on items that arrive faulty...
#7
Not really their risk either they will just go back to the manufacturer (assuming ebuyer are the importer)

Scan have the retail boxed.. ebuyer have the oem.
Scan - 3 year warranty
Ebuyer - 1year warranty (as far as I can tell)
Aria including delivery is £71.19 - 1 year warranty
Hope that helps you decide :)

The same drives from ebuyer have a three year warranty, not one. Or at least the three that I purchased do. See my post here:

Its £63 + delivery here:

.... Delivery is £8 from aria, their items are priced to account for it too, like a dodgy ebay seller.

Talking out of your A**e my friend !

These are bare drives supplied in plastic shells with instructions and a set of screws with a 3 year warranty.

SCAN put a couple of wraps of bubblewrap around each frive and shove them into a CityLink plastic bag and hope they ARRIVE IN ONE PIECE!

When they do - I would adivise you run the Samsung diagnostic tool to be sure all is OK - IF NOT BE PREPARED TO WASTE TWO WEEKS GETTING A REPLACEMENT and then check that one!

Emm - I think you're missing my central point ...

SCAN do not have retail boxed Samsung drives to sell - they are bare drives just like everyone else is selling.

My other point is equally valid - SCAN do not package their HDD's very well nor it seems do Ebuyer - both of which you seem to have an unexplicable admirartion for.

any hence they can sell them at cheaper prices :-)
Never had any problem with any drive I've bought from either place.... bought about 20 in total over the past 5 years or so..... course that doesn't mean you won't be unlucky!!!!!! :-)

NOTE: If you want a conclusion/summary of this post, scroll to the bottom...

I already bought this from Scan 3 weeks ago... First of all, this is my 3rd hard drive purchased from them, and the packaging was absolutely fine - more than acceptable. The drives are OEM, thus you will not get the brown box with foam packaging... My drive arrived wrapped in at least 6-8 layers of bubble-wrap... seriously about at least an inch thick and more than enough protection. Heck, they wrapped a spindle of 10 DVD's with the same amount of bubble-wrap.

I hate scan right now as I purchased a dual-SATA enclosure with the drive which not only arrived without UK power cables, but was DOA. 2 weeks after sending it back and it being tested faulty, they email me to say they had no stock left and would be a month or two to get new stock... A day after being given my money back (5 days after the email from them), they had fresh stock... Ohh, and I gave them hell (in a nice way - no ranting and raving, just showing my distrust in them and that I was very disappointed in the service) and not once did I get an email back.

So yeah, I pretty much hate scan right now but I cannot deny the fact that so far all hard drives, memory and optical drives have been very well packaged. Besides having it delivered to you in person from the one of the Scan employees, theres not much else they could do to make sure it arrives undamaged.

Ranting aside, the drive is a beast! I've done some benchmarking on a private forum a couple of weeks ago with some astonishing results... WRITE speeds between 80-100MB/s - that's CONSTANT speeds - NOT BURST SPEEDS. Still, I wouldnt like to use it as a OS drive, but for a backup drive this is a FANTASTIC hard drive. It runs quiet, cool, and fast... devilishly fast. An 8GB 1080P movie took about a minute and a half to two minutes.

In short: Absolutely fantastic drive so far. I have run benchmarking tools and they all confirm a solid reliability with a pretty remarkable speed considering it's supposed to be 'green' and is just 5400rpm. Scan's packaging for delicate components such as hard drives is more than ample enough to protect it during delivery. Just hope you dont need to RMA the drive because scans RMA process is painfully slow, with little communication.

Don't forget to add that being a member isn't enough you have to have a certain post count (i.e. talk enough ***** regularly) and then they give you free delivery,

So short translation : kid's spouting crap on a forum get free delivery but all long term paying customers like myself who have spent a small fortune with Scan over the past few years as a thank you can feck off and pay for delivery!

Packaging... Postal charges... Bubble wrap... 1 layer, 2 layer...

Whats the deal again please?!? Heheh!

To add my tupence, I've had a lot more positive experience with Scan than I ever did with eebee geebee buyer. In fact I had a delivery from Scan on Tuesday and I'm still unwrapping it now!

As for the drive... £70 is pretty good and you'll find that Scan's TodayOnly offers come round more than once. Well worth keeping an eye out!

i never mentioned about them being in retail box. You made your point about your experience...and we got that but ti doesnt mean its a 'big' risk as you made it seem out to be
