Today special at Scan. 1.5TB for 46.99, if you're a qualifying AV Forum or Hexus member.

The brand new Seagate® Barracuda® LP (low-power) family is here, designed and built by the desktop performance leader, but with the primary focus on a low-power, cool and quiet drive at an entry-level price.

This drive allows users to do more while using less power. The Barracuda LP drives deliver on low power consumption. But low power no longer means slow power. Benchmark performance results prove the 5900-RPM spin speed advantages (when compared to competitor drives that spin at 5400 RPMs). And these drives are cool and easy on the PC, often requiring fewer fans, a smaller power supply and lower maintenance costs. It’s the definition of energy efficiency.

Best For
USB, eSATA and FireWire personal attached storage devices, home and small office networking appliances, low power PCs and for customers who value low power, green drives

Barracuda LP drives are available in capacities of 2 TB, 1.5 TB and 1 TB and are ideal for desktop applications.

• Super-low power consumption reduces power costs over the life of the system up to 50% over those of standard desktop drives
• Leading performance in the low power category
• Cool drives provide long-lasting benefits to the PC or external drive, reducing some component and maintenance costs.
• Delivers true greenness without a performance trade-off
• Built to exacting Seagate green standards:

- Complies with RoHS directive
- Typically 70 percent or more of the materials used to build the drive can be recycled.
- Designed, built and delivered using best-in-class, environmentally friendly processes

• Engineered by the world leader in desktop hard drives with 13 generations of technology advances

This is probably about the best price-per-gig you can get from a hard drive now.

It's almost not worth burning stuff to discs these days, since you get almost as good a £/GB from HDDs.

I wouldn't trust my data with a Seagate drive. A few years ago, yeah, but in between times, they've cut spending drastically, taken over Maxtor, closed down factories, cut the warranty duration from 5 years to 3, released a series of 1TB drives with a firmware defect that causes disk death and followed it with a series of 1.5TB drives with a mechanical defect that causes clicking before death. They used to be great, but they've since lost it totally.

pretty sure there was a samsung f2 posted recently about this price, and with the way HD prices are dropping it definitely won't be a one-off. best on the market for performance and price are samsung f3 and f4eg's but there's enough past-generation samsung f2's or western digital greens going for a song atm - the green thing is a bit of a gimmik as you're talking about a couple of watts under load but any drop in performance won't be major.

from what i've read t'click of death problem has been fixed with a firmware update but i can't find much on how this drive compares to WD or samsung models, barracuda and diamondmax used to be 2 top brands but not read much positive about them in recent years.

I was gonna say hot deal unil i just checked some feedback reviews and they are all bad.
Think ill stick with samsung, have already had a seagate clicker.

Great price, but does that matter in light of poor feedback?

v. hot! bought one of these last time it was this price. it's not the fastest drive, but I'm using it for media storage - which it's perfect for. sometimes it takes a few seconds to spin up if I haven't accessed it for a while... but otherwise no complaints! lowest price per GB out there!

checking again, it seems like it's the samsung I bought - not the seagate...

Yes it is, they have done this deal a few times now and the price is simply unbeatable, bargain basement storage. I have two of them one in my NAS and the other in my PC for data they are good drives. Ignore the usual stupid complaints about them been slow, they are not built for speed.
