Hi all

My sons contract has just ended and he's not sure what to go for next or who with. He hates being without a mobile so I looked around and there are some very fair 30 day rolling contract deals - until a stupendous bargain comes up on HUKD.

So, I've re-posted this (it might be slightly different to some of the others posted on here) for those looking for a stop gap solution to in-between contracts.

For £10 a month/30 days/500/5000 this seems a decent deal to me. There are others too.

Tesco 3G speeds (even though they use O2) are pants. i moved to GiffGaff (also uses O2 network) but better speeds are 100x better.

Also better if you want unlimited data or more than 500mb per month.
#3
Great deal cheers. Time to cancel the TMobile £7.50 deal and go for this one I wonder?
#4
I agree. Tesco internet speeds and 3g coverage is joke. Avoid at any cost.

Yeah, I wasn't sure which of these had been posted and expired, but as it's still around I thought someone might benefit from it. My sons contract ended today and when I looked the deals didn't seem to be the same. Oh well, if someone benefits...

I disagree. I have 2 iPhones, a work one on O2 and a private one on Tesco, and both have identical 3G coverage and download speeds.

I have no problem with 3G speeds on Tesco mobile. I recommend them to anyone
#10
I'm on Tesco Mobile for my iPhone 4 and have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Get coverage practically everywhere and 3G speeds are fine. I would recommend to friends and family.
#11
I agree with others about there being no problem with tesco 3G download speeds or coverage. Identical to O2 in my experience.
#12
Unless I'm missing something, if O2, Tesco and Giff Gaff all use the O2 network backbone and transmitters how can there be any difference whatsoever in signal and coverage??

Different back end, honestly I have the speedtest results to prove it sitting at the same desk at work, various times for 1 week on O2 1week on Tesco

o2 average 3.5mpbs down 1.9mbps up
tesco average 0.5mbps down 1.1mbps up
#14
No data and as mentioned Tesco 3G speeds are poor. I had a 1 month rolling and cancelled.

What £7.50 deal is this ????
#16
Have the Tesco £10/500mins/500mb/Unlimited deal with my San Fran - 3G coverage is very poor, always a data signal, but rarely 3G.

Having said that, I don't use the internet all the time, so it's not a major issue for me.

tesco mobile is dogsh*t, i had it for a while. and this plan has no data.

check out giffgaff, much better
#18
tesco 3g speed are absolutely fine in my area, download speed from app store are generally 250-300kB/s..

East London, E14

This plan has 500 minutes, 5,000 texts and NO DATA. So what does it matter what the 3G coverage is like? If you need more minutes and don't use data this is a good deal.
#20
what happens after 30 days. does it go down or carry on with 500 mins

Recently expired .. 600 min, 500 text and 500 mb internet or any bolt on that you wanna add like unlimited landline, unlimited text etc .. 12 months sim only contract (the only bad thing is that internet speed was caped at 0.3 mbps)

Awww, now that does sound like a deal and just what I need. Thanks for taking the time to post the link, much appreciated :)

Lack of data takes the edge off this deal a bit. I am on the old Tesco promo tariff which is: 500 mins, 3000 texts and 500MB data (texts and data are advertised as 'unlimited', but as always, that's not the case)

3G speeds are lacking for me. Think I get 0.7mbps is the usual for me last time I check. Should probably be getting better to be honest

i guess the data wont include blackberry services?

also do the blackberry contracts include this as they fail to mention this anywhere on teh blackberry deals

People, what are you doing?!
Go to GiffGaff!
Get more for less :)
#27
no data ?? booooooo
#28
There are deals that include data on the Tesco site, but that wasn't really the point in my posting this. It was about using deals like this as a stop gap if you don't want to commit to a 12 month or more contract. Rolling contracts for £10 seem a bargain to me, but there is even a stonking Virgin 30 day deal for £20 that I'll post too if I can find it.

Cheers all.

Think OFCOM are looking into banning advertisements saying *Unlimited* when there is in fact a set limit because it is misleading information. For instance O2 Might say *unlimited internet* where you get a 500mb Allowance, 3 Say unlimited and its 1gb allowance and Giffgaff do ACTUALLY give unlimited internet!

I love Tesco mobile I am on this deal but with internet because I bought it wayyy back when it just came out. I have never had a problem with slow speeds and the coverage (O2s network) is amazing.
#36
Im guessing this has expired now, link doesn't work and no mention on their website
#37
Nope - still available.

Link here: http://phone-shop.tesco.com/tesco-mobile/sims/

For some reason, the links don't always stay at the right page but the deals are still there.
