Just recently bought an iphone for myself as works out a lot cheaper buying the phone and sim card separtely. You arent Tied in and can cancel when you want. £15 per month and you get unlimited texts, 1gb data and 250 minutes which can be rolled over if not used.
Tesco are teamed up with O2 and seems to be the best sim only card around in my opinion.

Ive saved myself about £200 doing it this way.

for some reason the link i have pasted isnt coming up but if you go on the website and click on sim only and iphone sim only deals it is on there. sorry this is my first post x
#3
just out of interest where did you buy the phone and did you transfer your number to the sim only deal ? I'm looking to get an iphone next month but this sounds like an ideal option.

Yes, but that offer ends at the end of March - it'll be interesting to see if they have a similar offer available. With that said you can still get 300 mins/ul texts and ul web for £15 per month with them.

I bought the phone off ebay, got the iphone 3gs 16gb for £270 new which was a good deal. Theres loads of good deals on phones on there. Think tesco mobile are doing one for £320 12 month contract £15 a month deal or something similar. I was with vodafone so im have got a new number. But you can transfer your number on this particular sim only card. You just need to ring up the company you are with and ask for a pac code then give it to the new company and i think it takes 2 days to transfer.

Hope this helps :)

Also another reason why i went with tesco mobile is the bonus of clubcard points which are triple at the moment on tesco mobile :)

I have the Tesco 500 mins / UL texts /500mb data for £10 a month (through the telephone sales and only when you order 2 sims - one of which you cancel as soon as you receive it) and it's easy to transfer your number - just call Tesco as soon as you receive your SIM and give them your PAC code (from your previous provider) and they will then give you a date when your number will be ported over - mine took around 4 days.

I've just upgraded and my old phone was locked to O2. I found a link on O2 that let me unlock for free (took less than 24 hours), so this or giffgaff might be handy to mention when the old one goes on a very unpopular auctioning site!

Voted hot :)

I'd avoid O2 for anything I plan to use for data, decent price, but unless you live in a great coverage rea it won't be a great buy.
#10
I'm not sure it's true that unused minutes and data can be rolled over - where did you see that? Looking in their T&C's it would seem that's not the case?

I was thinking about changing my tariff but the deals out at the moment are rubbish, I pay £20 and get 800 minutes and free internet and thousands of sms on a 30 day contract.

What happened to all them kinda deals, they still about?

I've gone for this too. Not as cheap as giffgaff, but Tesco mobile customer service has been great so far. Was with 3 but had to leave them since they got rid of 2g roaming in the areas that I need it. Openzone wifi is also available on Tesco mobile.
Will see what happens with giffgaff and make the switch in a couple of months.

Their customers vote them the worst network in the UK, Yougov vote them the worst network in the UK, OFCOM recognise that they have the worst network in the UK, and it's my own personal experience that they have the worst network, slowest speeds, and least helpful customer service i've ever encountered.

Fair enough! I've always found them to be quite good compared to the other networks but it's often not until you have a bad experience that you then hate a company more.

Very true, they have millions of customers so I might just have been really unlucky, but i'd definitely avoid going back to them. Doesn't make me right though, lol.

I'm on the iPhone sim only deal with o2 for £15, seems to be the same package. It's good but the warnings are warranted, as soon as I get to Villa Park the data goes while everyone else on other networks can still access there's!
Customer service however is excellent for both phone and broadband!

This may be rubbish but doesn't iphone need a micro sim? Or is that just iphone4? Dont think giffgaff will supply micro? Hence you may have to mess around cutting it down?

Yep you're correct in thinking that the iPhone 4 requires a micro sim but it's very easy to cut them down and there are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to do it.

People are leaving o2 in droves ... they are not prepared to give you a good retention deal .. Mine and the mrs is coming up renewal .. We wanted data included included in our deal they said it would cost us £20 a month when I told them Tesco are doing same deal for half their price they
was not interested.

Me thinks by End of Summer the big wigs at 02 will realize they are losing customers hand over fist then the deals will start appearing from 02 maybe sooner.

True, this is what happened to me too. Been with them for a few years - called to ask for a better deal i.e. match the Tesco deal and they didn't want to know and were ore than happy to give me my PAC code and actually told me to jump at the Tesco deal! Not a great way to keep your customers.

i love my o2 package - 300 anytime mins, 600 texts and unlimited o2 to o2 calls for only £10.21 per month (my usage on o2 to o2 calls is above 3000mins per month!!!). When I rung up to enquire about an upgrade possibly to an iphone 4 - the guy actually said if he was me, he'd keep my current tarriff and buy a new phone.
I may just buy an iphone 4 from ebay and either cut down my current sim - or perhaps ask o2 to add a bolt on for internet. I am tempted to move to giff gaff but don't want to lose my unlimited o2 calls!!!
#28
O2's network has been over subscribed since everyone moved to them for the Iphone. its actually the case that they are looking to lose their low end customers so if you arent paying £40-£50 a month then dont expect to get any sort of retention deal. they need customers to leave as there is no scope to increase their network.

Where is this info from exactly? Most complained about networks http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/2011/04/most-complained-about-major-telecoms-providers-revealed/
