£1 More On Trade Ins @ HMV

Saw a poster up in my local HMV yesterday (Northampton), saying they'll give £1 more for trade ins. I asked the geezer behind the desk about it and he said you just need proof of trade in value from elsewhere and they'll match it + £1.

Not much but a quid's a quid :).

yeah in northampton the cex is only a 100 yards from the gamestation,so all you need is to print out the price from the cex website and gamestation will beat that price by £1.

Gamestation prices aren't always that great though.

New game : £40
Used copy of that game: £38

And my HMV just shot shop so they're **** out of luck for my business. It's been there as long as I can remember too :(

Can you trade in DVDs??

Carmarthen HMV, opened 2 weeks before Christmas, and closed up 3 weeks after!!! it made no sense..

they would only give £8 in cash for Mario 25th anniversary ! When they sell it for £27 !
#19
So if I go to cex then get gamestation to match it plus £1, will I be able to go to hmv and get them to match gamestation plus £1?

Oh and btw hmv do cash trade ins too, but in my local it has to be the supervisor than authorises it.
#20
Northampton actually has two gamestations! One at top of the drapery and one in Weston favell shopping centre although the one at w.f. Doesn't match cex due to distance..... Dead space 2 is taken over from gt 5 in the 35 quod trade in promo today btw people....

No because you need a price match recipt, if you trade in at Gamestation the receipt (if i recall) shows the trade in price then an additional price match amount

Yeah, I brought the Argos page up on my phone in Gamestation, they thought that this price was an internet only price and would be different from instore. Sounds rubbish of course, will try with HMV.

be careful with this guys, not the hmv part dont really care about that but the gamestation we beat any trade in. i took fable 2 and wii sports resort to gamestation lord st lpool, the little spotty shltbag manager was doing everything he could not to price match with argos. the prices were £23 each. at the bottom in miniscule writing of the flyers it says at managers discretion.........this little tird was not happy, you would think it was his money, in the end i got my £46+£1 trade in but my god he was hard work
#26
Do HMV trade in six axis ps3 controllers?
#27
Game is very sticky about giving out their trade in prices - they won't even do it over the phone "You have to bring the game down here" (so we can pressure you into trading it in even though the price we offer will most likely be quite insulting). So i've no idea how they'd give you "proof" to take to HMV.

I usually don't bother taking games into town with me, i just lift one from the shelf and ask them how much if I trade mine in

Do Gamestation/HMV pricematch + £1 the CEX cash amount or the exchange value?

When you print out CEX's price, do you have to make sure a date is showing on the print out so they know it's a current price?

Is it just for games or will they beat console trade-ins by £1 too?
#31
You will need a reciept from CEX most likely, since the online prices require postage, and some HMVs/GS are not near a CEX.

On consoles, CEX operate a boxed/unboxed/discounted system, unlike the other two, so they will defo beat the discounted price, but might require (as CEX do) a superbly pristene system to get the full price.

FYI on price matching; GAME group can provide an itemised break-down of prices if you have a huge pile, but not by printing a quote, which gives bulk price. Transactions that are put on hold have a break down though.

Grantos; I seriously hope you are willing to put it back after you ask. ;) Drives me mental when people get a huge pile of games off the shelf, then ask for a trade price and leave me holding them. Likewise, prices are not given out over the phone primarily due to the excess work load involved [we used to do it] in getting about a billion game from the shop floor to scan for someone who could just get thier ass down to the shop... there is, btw, no coherent policy involved, nor a ploy to get you to trade in when you dont want to.

Argos prices are usually meh, but sometimes they have something inexplicable in there... the only thing high there is Fable at £23, when it could be bought before Xmas at £19.99...

I never take a receipt to my gamestation, if I quote CEX they don't normally check either but I get them to price match Argos and Tesco on occasions too depending on whoever offers the most cashback for any particular game, they then just check the websites themselves to confirm.

It's kind of sad the amount of times they have tried to squirm out of the offer with all sorts of excuses but whenever they do I tell them I want to see the Terms of the offer and they always back down and say something like "we will make an exception this once" as if they're doing me a favour oO

I now have a ridiculous amount of credit in store and no games at reasonable prices that I want to spend it on. Almost wish I had done it all next door at the HMV at least they sell other crap besides over priced games, such as over priced headphones too lol.
