The HMV description is quite vague:
Is it a 3 or 6 cell battery?
3G or not 3G?
#2
Given the battery life is a claimed 10 hours then it is unlikely to be a 3 cell
#3
they've pasted a generic description in, it does say upto 10hrs, obviously that would be with the largest one, but doesn't actually say which is supplied
#4
Does it have a web cam?
#5
...Just brought one now. I didnt find any promotional codes for this HMV.com. Quidco only got 5% but in other areas. I went through Maximiles and just got points.
#6
Does it have a web cam?

yes
#7
Picked up one as a present, seems a good price to me :D
#8
Not a HD 720p display. The specification clearly states:

" 10.1" SD 1024 x 600 (WSVGA) pixel resolution, high-brightness (200-nit) Acer CrystalBrite™ LED-backlit TFT LCD "

The model number is Acer 532h and i think they took most of the description from the acer website which states the same thing (but not in the specs which is deceiving). http://www.acer.co.uk/acer/productv.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&kcond61e.c2att101=72642&sp=page16e&ctx2.c2att1=17&link=ln438e&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&ctx1g.c2att92=842&ctx1.att21k=1&CRC=1165738704

any idea if its in-store?
#11
Good deal, one down for crimbo .
#12
I think is £999 instore (_;)

Loads of reviews etc on YouTube and this'll give people an idea of what you get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Unycd3ZGLY and a review http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmP0R_qRVZQ

And with no accents http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/4604/acer-aspire-one-532h-review and http://www.reghardware.com/2010/03/22/review_netbook_acer_aspire_one_532/

Looks a good price. Big fan of Acer as you get a lot for your cash IMO.

These'll be gone soon enough cos I reckon £240 is the usual price at least.

Just mind there's multiple models and finishes so you'll not really know what you're getting until you actually get it but for £180 it's a steal.

I have two sons who both want laptops this year.. the youngest wants a netbook and this looks really smart... like the longer battery life too (my netbook has a poxy 2 hrs which is rubbish!)... haven't ordered one, but thinking about it.
#14
Good netbook for the price. Would be interesting to know if it does have built in UTMS/HSDPA as stated in the spec or if that's just a generic spec and not exact for the model. If it does include it then it's a steal at that price.

LOL that's just gone right over my head.

Do you think this is a bit too good for a 7yr old? he's extremely intelligent for his age and way ahead of his peers.. he'd look after it but do you think I could get something a bit cheaper that would be adequate?

He means 3G builtin, if it does then you would still need to supply a simcard that has mobile broadband access.
#17
These are £229.99 in store.

6 Cell battery and are 3g / UMTS compatible, so will need a sim.

UTMS/HSDPA

Just means it's got a little plastic door that you can open and put a [mobile phone/or dongle] SIM in and get the Internet via that SIM (as if it were on a phone or using a plug-in USB dongle). Just like wi-fi except with a SIM.

Are you saying he's precocious? :)

I think this would be a perfect [small] machine for most people especially if they are used to the speed of a standard laptop or PC. Spending less would get you much less of an experience. This machine is already discounted.

And mind it has a version of Windows7 so it's gonna work and work well with most things you expect.
#19
You talked me into it.. I just ordered.. think it looks really snazzy.
#20
Hi I have been thinking about getting a netbook there seems to be two on here at the moment...which one is best ? What model is this ?

If it has wifi why do you need to put a sim card in it ?

Link to the other one which seems to be a d255

there's no chance of this playing 720p as it doesn't have the screen resolution or hdmi for an external monitor, the cpu might just about have the grunt, but why kill your battery, just play 480p on a frickin 10" monitor!

60ukp cheaper than the asus 1005pe i'm looking at buying, these things haven't come down in price at all though have they - the base price has always been around 199ukp.

the d255 for an extra tenner from john lewis might be better, the 532h seems to be a legacy model.
#22
I wasn't impressed with the Acer Aspire One I had (screen, keyboard, construction) though at this price it's a good buy.

For another tenner though you can get a nice Asus in Currys, less the fiver voucher via their catalogue. They'll even give you a £50 allowance against an old laptop making it £144 (£199 - £5 - £50). Looks like a nicer machine and has a better reputation.
#23
Thanks millarcat , just bought one for my 9 year old . He wants a portable little number to take to his grans when he's staying there and at this price I can't grumble . It's ideal as a starter netbook . Also bought my older son a Samsung one from Asda the other week which has more features such as bluetooth so as long as one of them has that I'll be able to get peace from them constantly asking me to dl songs and put them on their phones . Kids eh ? Heat added

Mind this is a bargain because of its price. It was overpriced at £300 or so and if there's negative of neutral comments you have to figure in the new price.

This machine's obviously not going to be for heady duty games. It's a portable machine and if you click on those links I provided you can see exactly what it can do and what you can expect.

Wi-Fi is for home use (your own local wireless router) or out and about when you connect to services in coffee shops and bus stations (or other people's routers etc). The SIM provides mobile Internet throuh the mobile phone system. You can have both or just the one. Or just plug it into a home router with an ethernet cable like you'd do with a PC base unit.

This is a mobile machine. Full-on real-life, 100% quasi-PC and none of this 'tablet' crap. When I was young tablet used to be something your granny made or strange looking people (like TV Licensing people but less unkempt) tried to sell you at your door.

Never buy anything at your door especially food oO
#25
Been undecided whether to buy it or, have decided to purchase it, will give you my opinion when it arrives.
#26
I think I also get an extra 10% off as registered a student discount many years ago online & they've never removed it making it £170ish with quidco maybe a little less
#27
I think that it is just a poor product description on the part of HMV.

Design

The design of the Acer AO532H has been modified and trimmed down to just less than one inch thick; this makes it slimmer and sleeker than the 1005PE. However, the 532H is a bargain laptop with cheap prices as compared to its competitors, its design and build quality is still excellent, and supposed to be very sturdy.

A nice feature of this laptop is a full keyboard with numbers and control keys. Another distinct feature of the Acer AO532H is that it has a very large access panel at the bottom of the netbook, which permits you to not only upgrade the RAM but also the hard drive with great convenience.
Processor and Operating System

The Acer AO532H introduces the latest Intel Atom Pine Trail platform with the Atom N450 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB) processor for extra power utilization, giving it 10 hours battery life.

Acer AO532H comes with Window 7 Starter edition OS, which has nice handy features that allow you to set up various profiles, such as plugged and unplugged to save power.
Storage Space and Memory

The Acer Aspire One 532H is available in two different configurations. The high-end model comes with a larger 250GB hard drive and 5,600 mAh 6-cell battery for extra run time and with a 160GB hard drive, and a 4,400 mAh rated 6-cell battery respectively, and also 1024MB DDR2 667MHz Memory.
Connectivity Features

The Acer Aspire One 532h offer good connectivity options such as a 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) and Acer InviLink(TM) Nplify(TM) 802.11b/g/Draft-N Wi-Fi USB, and SVGA in addition to the standard mike and audio out.

Acer AO532h is available in three colors and two sets of configurations, which is a great choice considering the Acer AO532h is a budget laptop deal. The budget model has an 8-hour battery life, and a 160GB hard drive , while the premium model has a 10-hour battery life and bigger 250GB hard drive.

I don't think there is a 3G card installed.

Whomever done the HMV site just copy/pasted that text. HMV struggle to get DVD spec correct no matter complicated computer items.

Like I said, until you get the Acer (this goes for virtually every Acer I've owned, fixed or bought for people) in your mits, you'll not have a definitive answer.

I'm assuming the:
mrgreedy2008

...has seen the shop model in the flesh. Again, that's not to assume anything.

Hmmm, to and fro on a new gadget, was looking at the ipad deal but its such a colossal amount of money for something not as functional as this..

Had an older Aspire One but the battery only lasted an hour or so and the 8 hrs (or more likely 6) appeals...

Question is, how rank is the lid colour?!

...was looking at the ipad...

I giggled when I first heard that name (thought it was some sort of electronic premenstrual device).

No doubt the iPad® has it's uses but that doesn't make it useful necessarily. Good for showing off maybe and good for Apple shareholders. It's basically a showy toy intended to mobile which most people just use in the house.

A netbook is much more useful. It's a mini-PC.
#31
Whatever model is on sale at HMV, it isn't the 532 - look at the photos and compare to the pictures in the reviews...
#32
I thought that, the colour here isn't available on that model...

If someone could post what they actually receive it would be much appreciated

Just received it today, gotta say its pretty impressive though this is my first netbook so cannot really compare to anything else. Can confirm it is the "acer 532h-2dr" model or NAV50 as its called.

Hey can you confirm the specs, like the:
- 720 Hd display
- battery cell? 3 or 6
- Whether it is 3G or not

Also the colour, thought it only states 3 colours?
#35
It states in the description text that there's Bluetooth , I can confirm there is no bluetooth . I haven't opened the box as it's a present but the colour delivered was the bronze model . Nopefully this will clarify someones question .

Just seen it in store, can confirm 6 cell battery, doesn't look like 3G. As far as I know, acer don't do a 720hd netbook.

Search for Ron's Tiny XP, I'm replying on my older Aspire One now with it on... It has all the drivers/everything in the image, just follow his very simple instructions..
