Not sure if this has been posted before, checked on Search but couldn't see it.

When you buy Your Home magazine for £1.99 you get a voucher for a free tin of paint worth £10.99 at any Focus store.

We picked up a few copies and have enough paint to start the Forth Bridge!

Where is the best place to buy the magazine? Is it the sort of mag that would be in your local paper shop or just WH Smith?
#11
I found it in Sainsbury's but I think it should be available most places.

Wonder if they have any Crystal Green or Artichoke colour still, just moved a wardrobe I didn't paint behind a couple of years ago... 80s salmon pink is not so hot.

Bizarre because we bought some last night at about 7.30pm before this was posted (from Focus!). We'll be taking it back and rebuying as I now have the voucher too!

I wouldn't use Focus paint if it was free! I bought some Focus magnolia matt emulsion last year to paint a room that was already magnolia. I wrongly assumed that it would be reasonable quality if Focus allowed their name on it. All I wanted to do was freshen the room up a bit and get rid of a few smudges and finger marks. After 2 coats on one wall I could still see the marks under the paint. It's really thin and watery. It's like trying to paint with milk! It was no good at covering up marks, and I'm sure it would have been useless at hiding a different colour. I used a roller and it splashed no matter how slowly I went. The only thing that it did well, was soak the wallpaper.

I took it back to Focus, complained, and they gave me my money back. Swapped it for Crown magnolia (twice the price) and the difference was incredible: one coat coverage (over the same colour), no splashes, no marks visible underneath. I'd rather pay for quality paint and only have to paint the room once than buy this cheap rubbish and have to paint the room 3 times!

No, that's Homebase :)

Can I just check - is this just for Focus own brand paint, or does it apply for Dulux etc?

Thanks for the warning. Just like the homebrand B&Q paint then ;-)

Focus paint is actually quite good, when I was in store last year getting some paint I opted for their own brand stuff with advert showing that it had beat major brands such as Crown and Dulux in various tests.

When I got it home I was impressed, B&Q paint is S**T

If you're thinking of taking advantage of this I recommend that you first of all contact the store you intend going to just to check that they're participating in this offer.

I went to the Widnes shop and they refused to deal on the basis that "half the shops have been sold, including Widnes, and they're not really Focus shops anymore".

When I asked why the shop signage and the staff uniforms still said "Focus" they said "It doesn't matter. We're not Focus anymore and there's no way you can have any paint for free.".

A complete waste of time and effort!

Is the widnes store on the focus website??

Widnes is still active on the website i reckon you would have a good case!!!!!!
#40
I thought I had a good case too but the Store Manager made it perfectly obvious that he wouldn't budge and that his Head Office backed him - apparently somebody else had already complained - so what could I do? I'm hardly likely to litigate over something like this; I just wanted to let other members know about a potential problem so that they don't waste their time following a non-existent hot deal (at Widnes anyway).
