  I bought a cable 30m from e-bay. I wanted to make small cables out of it. I cut the cable to see cheaply manufactured cable. There is no nylon string (Angels Hair) in it. The inner cables were thinne like hair and I dont think they were even copper. I would say if you are trying to achieve gigabit over cat5e go for something better. From outside most of these cables look shiny and nice.

  Overall it is better to pay for the equipment and make your own cable. Then get the cable in a massive roll. Also helps when doing over a distance because because you wont have the jack getting in the way. Helps when wiring your house of Ethernet cable.

  The cheap cat5e and even cat6 ones are aluminium, usually with an ultra thin copper coating (known as CCA).
