I've never understood why 18 to 25 year olds get a discount, they can work full time like the over 25s

@jb666 Its for students. We need to travel up and down the country to get to university and back. Your generation of students got no tuition fees, ours gets 9k a year and 1/3 off train fares....

Can similar railcards be bought for 33 yr olds? The train fare is just getting ridiculous now for a trip to scotland

For those living in London, the railcard discount can also be applied to your Oyster card. Just take Oyster card and railcard to a London Underground ticket office for them to apply the discount on your card.

exactly. if anything many mature students finances are tighter than 18-25 year olds.
same here in Edinburgh for the bus student pass

Many over 65's can work... should we make them....?
Also, it's near impossible for 16-25 year olds to get a job, just look at employment statistics for the last 2 years...
Finally, under 18's have a terrible minimum wage (slave labour [never any mention of a maximum wage is there?)...

I'll agree with you there, should apply for mature students aswell, I don't think anyone (except the greedy privatised rail service) thinks mature students shouldn't be entitled to the same discount...

It's just as hard for a 26 year old to get a job as a 18 to 25 year old

Kinda splitting hairs there by adding an additional year into the agenda... but yes, I'm sure that is the case for many people... maybe it's even difficult to get a job at 27!

a mature student is classed as 21 in university...so if you apply at 21, get a 3 year railcard, it'll last til you're 24, then if you really want, after you finish uni, you can buy a one year railcard because they are not valid for anyone over 25.

It does apply to mature students too, so long as you have a valid student Id,at least it did a few months ago when I last got one

Can this be used on the high speed train to London St Pancras? also can you use one for a couple or do you both need your own individual card?

you need your own individual card.

Go on the trainline, type in where you are leaving from, where you are going to. Add a 16-25 railcard and see how much it costs. It should knock 1/3 off the price.
