The New 4th Gen ipod Touch is £249 but i noticed after a little digging on the apple site that if you go and take in an old ipod to get recycled at the Apple RETAIL store then you get 10% off a new ipod ( Except Shuffle).

This makes the new 8Gb 4th Gen touch £178.1 instead of £189
The 32Gb 4th Gen Touch £224.10 instead of £249
The 64GB 4th Gen Touch £296.10 instead of £329

Can't find them any cheaper than that online or anywhere :)

Link to recycling page here: http://www.apple.com/uk/recycling/ipod-cell-phone/

Note: The 10% discount only applies to recycled ipods.

Seems like a good deal.
#2
10% of £189 is £18.90, therefore the 8GB version is £170.10 ! see, I'm so cleva.
#3
check you can't get more for your old ipod by selling it yourself first.
#4
I hope they'll accept my chipped screen, extremely scratched back and pushed in and broken home button iPod touch 1st gen!

This offer has been on forever!
#6
All a complete rip off anyway

So I trade in my 64gb ipod 3rd gen, and only get like £20 for it. I think this deal is poor.
#8
10%???

They should offer a real incentive - like Sony Bravia did for their overpriced TVs... Offer £50 off for anyone trading their old Ipod and they would see a rocket in sales....
#9
But if it's recycling ANY old phone then you can get a PAYG phone for a few quid from eBay (or a tenner from Asda) and save yourself £34 on a 64GB iPod touch. That's a real £24 saving. That's a lot of apps on your shiny new iPod.
#10
Its still not tempting me to get one. I really wish it was 16gb not 8gb,
Only one that seems a valid price increase is the 32gb.
#11
I don't see how in any scenario this would be better than selling, unless they accept broken models. The best way of saving money in this case would of course be not buying apple...
#12
cheers OP! I just wish they did a 16gb. :(
#13
No I think you can only recycle an iPod for the discount:

A free iPod recycling programme, conducted through Apple’s retail stores, offers environmentally friendly disposal and a 10 percent discount on the purchase of a new iPod1.

1. Excluding iPod shuffle.
#14
This is hot - hell you can get a second hand phone for pennies literally from secondhand shops; trade in and get 10% this is a no brainer.
#15
get 10% through work anyways, never the less a good deal
#16
If you're looking to get the 32GB or 64GB models and are going to trade in a pretty old, mostly worthless mobile then this deal isn't too bad.

However trading in anything else is crazy since you'd get a far better return selling on eBay, etc
#17
You only get the 10% discount if you recycle an ipod, you do not get the discount if you recycle a phone
#18
Anyone know if this applies if you send your ipod/phone in by post rather than taking it to an apple store as there are none near me?
#19
Anybody want to by my 1 week old Ipod Touch 64gb for £240 - What I paid for it. New version for £290 may not be good value but is a good price, that's good old Apple price fixing. Way peeved at shop not knowing a new one was coming out and selling me one replacing my lost on the plane previous one

?
Everybody knew that Apple were going to be announcing new iPods in September. They do it every year. The Apple blogs have been full of talk about wat the new ones would offer. Nobody in their right mind would have bought an Touch in the last month.
#21
PS Hot from me as I *didn't* know Apple retail stores offered discounts for old kit...

In general apple do a 14 day money back policy, so if it was just last week take it back for a full refund and buy the new one.
#23
Recycle your old iPod or any mobile phone by mail, free. Or bring your old iPod to an Apple Retail Store for 10 percent off a new one.*

This deal is misleading - they don't accept old phones for discount - only iPods. All electronics retailers are obliged to offer recycling of any old electronic equipment under the WEEE directive which is why they will recycle old phones. You can even take in an old computer to an Apple Store and if you buy a new one and don't want to keep the old one, it will be recycled.

However, what's good about the deal is that provided the iPod is in one piece and the battery isn't damaged (which would pose a potential hazard) then it can be accepted. It doesn't even need to be working.
#24
Maybe the OP should change the description as you only get 10% off if recycling an iPod and not a mobile phone.
#25
Ludicrous! So you'd essentially be selling off your old iPod for as little as £18.90. Surely even an old classic iPod is worth more than that?

Or you can sell it to O2 online or instore for £95!

If it's only one week old, why don't your return it for a refund?...

Everyone knows new ones come out every september, and rumours about the new ones have been out for months.

Lets not be too damning of this person. Not EVERYONE knows. But blaming the shop for not telling him a new one was on the way is silly. Do people honestly expect shops to turn away all their business for weeks on end by telling their customers to wait for their new products?
#29
So they take your old ipod, strip it and use all the working parts in their refurbished ipods that they then either sell or send you out when your brand new one goes wrong. I think it's a good deal if you use a 10 quid phone, but they could be a bit more generous with the discount as i doubt they are "disposing of them in an enviromentally friendly way". They're making a fortune from this i expect.
#30
I don't really get why they've taken out the 16gb (I know they did it last year).
8gb isn't really enough to store a lot of music, video and apps.
32gb is overdoing it.
£190 for 8gb, £250 for 32gb....there's an obvious midpoint there of around £220 for a 16gb one.

All daft anyway, should be able to get 100s of gb for those kind of prices now. Apple are fast becoming a bit of a microsoft, abusing a monopoly.
#31
Anyway - expired because the deal isn't any old phone.

Show me ANY music player with "100s of gb" for that kind of price that uses FLASH memory. Getting hundreds is sort of possible - see the 160gb iPod Classic - but that requires a small hard drive. I've yet to see or hear about any player with more than 64gb of flash as I'm afraid it's simply not economically viable yet. The chips from the memory people are slowly appearing that will support that kind of capacity, but, as with anything new volumes are difficult.

Well said. Some ppl just see the word 'Apple' and spout nonsense.

Do you reckon it's worth it to trade in my 2nd generation nano for the 32GB Touch? Seem's like a good deal for a iPhone without the Phone!
#36
Was looking to get the 32GB in a couple of months to replace my old 2nd gen 16GB, I'll see if I can dig up an old mobile, can't scoff at a £25 saving for trading in something I haven't even looked at in the past 12 months.

It's been posted on here about 20 times since may.....

Also a quick 5 second google would show they come out every september.

Not everyone visits this website 20 times since may and not everyone googles 'ipod release dates' before they go out to buy this in a shop.

You only get the 10% discount if you recycle an ipod, this is a very misleading deal.

It does seem unreasonable to complain that he didn't know new ones were coming if he clearly hadn't sought the easily available information. As for the shop not telling him, Apple hadn't then announced the product. This is hardly an odd way of doing business.
