I have tried to use ny NUS befour.. but they always reject it, and say I can only use it stationary :x

Have they changed their policy?

Perhaps their system has recently changed, but if not then the student discount scheme does NOT apply to all products - only 'consumables'.

Dopy members of staff/weekend workers may not know of the system, and so you may be lucky and receive 10% off all items.

To repeat - i *could* be wrong here. They may have extended their student promotion to 10% off all....but i just thought id forewarn you to avoid disappointment if not.

rbentley - The link doesnt work, but nice one for clearing this up. I didnt expect them to have extended the discount as, lets face it, theyre not exactly a generous company!

Link works here, just goes to the PC World homepage.

By the way, you dont need an NUS card, any student card will do.
NUS are just trying to scam a tenner off all the students for no reason.

Basically no shops require an NUS card, been at Uni for years, doing one course then changing over half way through for another, so being there ages lol, and never met a person with NUS even once.
Never been turned down for a discount because it wasnt NUS either, and thats from most all shops ive been into the past few years.

Its a good deal if you shop in PC World.

Students should get a card from their University. It would have their University student ID and pic on. Normally used in exams/getting books out the library.

You do need an NUS extra card. I know Burtons do not give you student discount unless its an NUS Extra.

NUS give you the option to have a free card called NUS democracy which give you no discounts. Its your option whether you want it or not, but its free for a reason - no discounts.

Due to NUS offering a free card, and a £10 extra card, it clearly suggests you will need an extra card for your student discounts. If the companies give you any discounts without an Extra card, you just got lucky the staff are dopey :)

Not unless they just changed in the past couple months, since i used it at christmas no problem.

I'm in Glasgow, and never once seen someone with NUS.

Pretty much all the shops around the town centre have posters up telling you that you get "10% off for students".
They dont care if its that NUS Extra rubbish.
As long as you can prove you are a student, you will get the discount.
In which case, all you need is the card that the University gives you.

It's not that the staff are dopey at all.

Its policy here that students get discounts.
Not that "only students with a special card" get discounts.

If someone tells you, that an NUS Extra card is needed on the High Street they are talking tripe. :giggle:

#13
So what are my chances of using my nus extra card and getting 10% discount in PC world on one of their Playstation 3 consoles that are showing as £399 online collect @ store ?
#14
its 10% off with an NUS extra card which costs £10 and is different from the regular NUS cards, I used it on the any 2 games for £60 for the 360 promo twice

You need to have bought the NUS card to get a 10% discount at HMV, this is very good when you combine the 10% quidco and then the 10% student deal. Amazon also give you 5% and require a valid NUS card. It is definitly worth the money if you shop at either of these two stores
#16
Oh i should mention that you can only get 5% off at amazon up to a maximum cumulative spend of ₤1500 including the discount. Ive used up all my discount at amazon

Well thats definite BS for a start.
I wasnt too bothered with this thread and was trying to keep out of it but you DO NOT need an NUS card for HMV.
Fed up mentioning it here.

You need an NUS or HMV Student Card.
Anyone with any student ID can pick up an HMV Student Card.
I have one, they have big posters up saying
"Students pick up your HMV Student Card and get 10% discount"
The card number goes on your HMV account profile, and you get 10% there as well.

Please stop misleading people.
And please stop trying to sell people NUS cards when they dont need them.
Must work for them :whistling:

OK, but can I use the NUS extra Card that I have to get 10% off the Playstation 3?
#19
You cant online, and you cant instore.

Unless you find someone stupid enough to ring it through.
Its written somewhere on the terms, you cant use the discount on console hardware.

Don't forget, though, that OU students can access this facility by joining OUSA and getting an Id card. I was still getting student discounts into my 60s. I got some funny looks, of course, and a few ribald comments, but when it comes to money who cares about that!
