Amateur Gardener Question: When's the best time to plant these outside?
#2
thanks op ordered !

When To Plant
Summer fruiting strawberries (the type seen in most shops) can be planted in early September or early April. The best results undoubtedly come from planting in early September, although if your area suffers heavy winter frosts, it is best to wait until mid April. Perpetual strawberries should be planted in mid April.

For both types, wait until the soil is crumbly and not water-logged.

Top knowledge! I'm going to order some of these, my son love strawberrys and any excuse to dig up the garden!

Just to add. I have found a glitch here... If you add say £30.00 worth of products then the £3.49 Strawberries. Type in the promo code and apply it then remove the £30 worth of unwanted stuff you keep the discount. Just ordered for under £0.10!
#5
ha! nice find on the glitch! they will never honor it! but worth a try!
#6
hot! Any online deals 4 dairy cows which give double cream when milked? Lol!

"hmm...we have a lot of orders come in this weekend.." :whistling:

If you want the best out of these plants then you should remove all the fruit when it is still green this year. Next year's harvest will be much improved - but I doubt many will have the patience.

If you let the plant devote its energy into putting down roots and leaves in its first year you will be rewarded with a bigger crop the second year.

Definitely the case normally, but my strawberry plants from Fothergills were actually large mature plants, not the little plugs I was expecting. If these are the same they can be left to fruit this year with no problems. On the downside, they arrived a month later than advertised.

thanks, this is a great start for my first year with an allotment!
#21
Thanks that is great.
#22
Thanks for this, was looking to get some over the weekend & forgot. Should be enough for 2 hanging baskets :)
#23
thanks ordered, dont mind paying £3.14 for 10 plants think that is a great offer.
#24
More than happy to pay the postage for these, however if you look you'll see that postage is actually free and there's a charge for the plants?...odd.

Like an earlier poster, I think that this is an old site and we won't see anything. If you try to order anything else not using this page, you are redirected to another website.

Code doesnt seem to work anymore?

Not overly fussed tho - its only 35p!

Put it in the bottom code field, not the top one. The top one is for looking up plants in the catalogue.

Ooooh you are fast! Deleted that as soon as i realised my mistake!

I was gonna order, but with the speculation of the deal being expired and handing over my card details for £3.15, will this time give it a miss.

How much would these be in B&Q / Wyevale / Homebase etc?

I've just ordered those strawberry plants and some other stuff too (blackcurrant bush and a different strawberry variety). Good find to the OP, added heat.

Nice, I was thinking about trying to grow strawberries. These look great.
#33
Thanks just ordered.
Does anyone know where to get a good deal on a strawberry planter to grow them in?
#34
strawberrys are a wondeful plant to have in the garden, however, you may find that you become very frustrated when you discover that everyone and EVERYTHNG loves them! I'd put down some straw to keep the strawberrys off the gorund and protect them from ground attack and put a net over them to keep those horrible birds away, too. Good luck!
#35
as a matter of interest, what variety are they as there are so many varirties out there??
#36
Whats the best way to grow strawberries? In a pot with canes, up a wall with mesh, or in a basket.

Also how many strawberries do you get from 1 plant - dont know if I really need 10, i'm thinking of getting some from market, but if I do need 10 i might aswell get these.
#37
some hints attached
Planters / baskets work but you may need to net them so they may npt look that good

"Also how many strawberries do you get from 1 plant "
Depends on how many get eaten by birds, children and other family members :)
They wont all crop at once either - so unless you have an abundance - just pick and eat!
#39
what is the best way to protect these?

nets, mats or both?
#40
mats for slugs, nets for birds and electric fence for children....
