Thanks for the tip hardy16 and welcome to HUKD! There's a link in my siggy with help on posting deals - check this out if you need it. For example, this really would be best posted as a "sale" or a "tip" rather than a product.

Thanks

I'll be interested in this when some more details are available. Cheers.

I'm thinking magazine subscription DDs or a quick £500 in and out if I choose not to use the account "properly".

Could someone explain better how this works?

Im currently with the Bank of Scotland (not the Royal)... I dont have anywhere near it but lets say I put £300 into it and use it for 3 direct debits of any value - do they honour this and pay £100 into my account immediately?

Does my BoS account *need* to be stopped/cancelled before this will work? And are there any dodgy T&C's? I would imagine there are when they are giving out £100 for "free".

EDIT: Is there a minimum that must be in the account before they give you the £100?

Grrr, already with RBS :-(

So does anyone know more about this?

Do you have to close your existing bank current account?

Watch the interest rate on the RBS current account. It will be little or nothing - you might even have to pay up to £15/ month service charge. There is a 'no service charge' option, but you will pay per direct debit transaction etc.

My elderly father is only getting 0.15% on his RBS current account and paying £10 a month for the privilidge of their 'Royalties' club.

You'd be better in the long run going with Cahoot or Smile online where you get 3-4% interest:thumbsup:

Or the A&L Premier Direct Current Account that pays IIRC 6.1% on any balance under £2,500. They also used to pay £50 to account opener and £50 to referrer but I believe that has now reduced to £25 each.
#10
I think A&L do pay quidco though.. :)

I would never go back with RBS, I would recommend that anyone who does this gets the money and switches back.

Of course, take it and run :-)

I went into my local RBS and they said they had not heard of this deal.

Is there anyway to find out what branches if any are running this deal?

I opened an account with FirstDirect for £25 cash back (before they brought in those ridiculous charges). They were also doing a £50 cash back for transfering your current account.

This deal means you HAVE to close your old account, I'm sure theres a way of stopping the closer without RBS knowing. They take all your details from your current account and no it has to be £500 minimum or the cash back just won't happen. It's usually after so many days like two months.

If you need a new job let me know and I can get you one with £20k for standing on a gate :-D great pension, great sick pay, great holiday package. Although I'm not doing that anymore, gone up in the world.

Last time they had this offer IIRC your branch needed to be in Scotland but you could nominate any Scottish branch.

The offer was dealt with by a special team so branches didn't know anything about it. I took my statement into the branch to be faxed, they didn't seem know about the offer but faxed them for me.

Last time the offer was run they didn't need you to close your old bank account. Even if they did this time there would be know way of telling if you have closed an account. They did encourage you to transfer direct debits but it wasn't a requirement.

I am with the RBS, also live in scotland, RBS ran this promo about 6 months ago with newspaper and radio adverts.
If you switched to the rbs current account, you got £100 for changing, HOWEVER you HAD to be with the bank for 12 months before the cash was paid out, so no you cant carpetbag then run LOL!
Also if you were with the RBS already, you had the option to upgrade to like a royalties, gold or premier account, and the £100 would be paid again after 12 months!
Its worth pointing out, the basic royalties account is £6 a month, gold is £12 and premier is £15.
These fees are supposed to give you benefits like....
Discounts on our rates for overdrafts, credit cards, mortgages and Personal Loans.
Good luck!

Have the Royalties account and saved myself £600 per person on my honeymoon through the travel bit. Yeah it's pain paying fees for an account however you can opt for ones with no fees and if you want better interest rates simply go for a linked savings account and get it on that. Don't honestly get why people complain about a charge for an account with benefits when you can get one without. I'd much rather do that than bank with the people my mum does who charge her a couple of quid a month to have weekly statements!

Quick calculations: £6 x 12 = 72 + lots of hassle for £38 if you don't realy want to change an account. I think that Alliance was the best deal around.

I think herby247 is wrong.

I signed up for RBS about 6 months ago. It took 2-3 months before salary was paid in, all the documentation was sent in, etc. before I got the £100. I certainly didn't need to stay with them for 12 months!

Also, RBS do charge for some accounts but if you choose the Interest Paying Current account there is no monthly charge.

this deal starts the first of february it is onl in certain branches, you do not have to close your account with your other branch, all you need to do is switch your account by transfering at least 3 direct debits to go out of the account or have at least 500 a month going in and they will give you 100.00 in your account, there is no charges you only have to have to open a current account, do not need royalties account where there is charges, but if you wish to upgrade they are doing a special offer where they will refund you the first six months back, so a good way to save some extra cash if you wish to do so. but please rememeber only in certain branches
