Details on availability of points:

Microsoft Points
Q. What are Microsoft® Points?
A. Microsoft Points is a micro-payment system that can be used across 2 digital marketplaces – Xbox Live and Zune. Your points are held in a balance associated with your Windows Live ID until you use them to buy goods and services.

Q. How Can I earn Microsoft Points by participating in the MSN Autos Dream, Design, Drive Challenge?
A. Good question! We’ve made it easy to accumulate Microsoft Points when you participate in the MSN Autos Dream, Design, Drive Challenge

First – you must design a car and register for the MSN Autos Dream, Design, Drive Challenge!
When you do, simply click on the – Yes, I want to receive Microsoft Points – box on the registration form.
Upon registration, you’ll immediately receive an email with a Points coupon code for 100 Points that can be deposited at the Microsoft Points website http://points.microsoft.com. (Please note that the MSN Autos promotional Points coupons must be redeemed at the Microsoft Points website and not through the Xbox Console or Zune client. However, once these coupons are converted into Points in your account, these Points can be used in the same manner as any Microsoft Points in your account).
Then, return to the MSN Autos Dream, Design, Drive Challenge daily. Create another car, login, and you’ll receive 50 points each time you submit a new car. Plus earn another 50 points for your first ranking in the Showroom during that session. That’s up to *100 points per day during the promotion! (please note that specific caps do apply).
Q. How do I deposit my Points coupon code?
A. To deposit the coupon at the http://points.microsoft.com site, simply click the “Redeem a Microsoft Points prepaid or promotion code” link. Existing Points users will be asked to sign in with their Windows Live ID. New users will be asked to create a new Windows Live ID and accept the Terms of Use.

Q. How will I receive the remaining Points I have accumulated during the promotion?
A. At the end of the promotion, you will receive an email with a coupon code(s) for the total amount of points accumulated during the promotion that you can deposit into your Microsoft Points account. To deposit these Points coupons, follow the steps 3 & 4 above. Go to the Microsoft Points website http://points.microsoft.com and select “Redeem a Microsoft Points prepaid or promotional code” link. You will be asked to sign in with your Windows Live ID.

Q. I am an existing Xbox Live subscriber, why can’t I enter this Points coupon on my Xbox Console?
A. For this promotion, you must enter the Points coupon at http://points.microsoft.com. In the near future, there will not be a distinction on where you can enter any Points promotional coupons – whether it is through the Zune client, the Xbox console or the Microsoft Points website. Rest assured that when you enter these coupons on the Points website, those Points go into your Points balance that can be used across Xbox Live Marketplace and Zune Marketplace. These Points are no different than any other Microsoft Points that you may have purchased or earned!

Q. I didn’t opt-in for Microsoft Points when I first registered, but am interested now, can I earn still earn points when I participate in the promotion?
A. Unfortunately no. Program requirements state that you must opt-in to accumulate Microsoft Points when you initially register for the promotion.

Q. I see there are specific caps that apply, what does that mean?
A. There is a maximum number of Microsoft Points an individual participant can accumulate throughout the entire promotion duration (June 25, 2008 – August 25, 2008) of 2,000 Microsoft Points. Once an individual meets this cap, based on eligible activities completed, the points’ accumulation will stop at 2,000.

Q. How do I know how many Microsoft Points I have accumulated in the MSN Autos promotion?
A. Click on the Log In tab near the top of the page. Log in with the email and password you created during your initial registration. Once you click on the Log In button, you will be able to see your total accumulated Microsoft Points and Sweepstakes Entries earned to date. Please note that this is the amount of Points that you have earned with the MSN Autos promotion. This does not represent your total balance for Microsoft Points. To see your balance, please visit Xbox Live, Zune or http://points.microsoft.com.

Q. I opted in to receive Microsoft Points, but have not received the Points for registration. How come?
A. Please Contact Us.

Q. I am not seeing any Points accumulating when I Log In, or, they have stopped accumulating, but I am still participating in the promotion, how come?
A. First, please make sure you Log In on all subsequent visits using the same email address and password created during the initial registration process. However, if you have logged in with this information, and still are not seeing any points accumulation, please Contact Us. If your account has stopped accumulating points, it may be because your individual Points cap has been reached. Please see Official Rules for details.

Q. When should I expect to see my final Microsoft Points email?
A. You should receive your final Microsoft Points email with coupon code(s) on/about 9/19/2008.

Setting up a US account for those that don't have one:

Just set up a new Gamertag on you Xbox - google an american address with zip code(shop/university/whatever) and away you go - it really is that simple

For example

350 West Mart Centre Drive
Chicago
IL 60654

All items that you download on your US accoutn will also be playable/usuable when you log back into your regualr Xbox Live Account

Because it's completely free to set up a US account and you're getting £17-£20 worth of MS Points for free.

edit: and also I think the things you buy with the points: Live Arcade games, dlc etc can also then be used with your regular UK account, It's all stored on the same hard drive.

Nice one, got some south park gamerpics.
#19
nice find. shame we can only do one a day, but 'suppose they have to stop us getting possible thousands of free points each. :P
#20
I got the first letter wrong a couple of times and it says my account has exceeded the amount of failed tries. Try again later.

How long do i have to wait?
#21
How do you continue to get the 100 points per day? I recieved the first code for the 100 points. When i go on the dreamcarchallenge site it says ive got 350 MS points but it hasnt given me a code to put them on my account with?
#22
You get sent a code at the end of the promotion for the rest of the points.
#23
So if I design a car I get 100 points, then what do I have to do for the rest?

as posted. the first 100 points you get sent a email straight away to redeem as posted on the MS points site.
then if you continue each day to make a car and submit you get a "credit" to your car design account.
once the promotion ends you will receive a email with a final code containing all of your accumulated MS points.
cap is 2000 points though.
#25
Thanks for this, can't say no when offered some free points to use with my Zune :-D.
#26
Shonk
I just tried
Not Valid In This region

to be expected but was worth a try

Did you put the code they sent you straight into the redeem code box on the dashboard? Thats the message i got when i first tried it, but when i re-read it you put the code in here:

https://points.microsoft.com/

It should then do the biz for yo (provided you are using a US account)

Also as Da_Outsider said anything you download on your american account - demos, themes, arcade games et are all available on your UK account when you switch back over

I use my american account to download alot of the demos that you have to wait longer for in the UK (and American sports that we never get the demo's of)

curious. as this goes on is everyone "designing cars" ? or are they just trying to get to submit as fast as possible ?.

be a laugh if someone here won the prize. think they will have something to say about that. :P

I've been actually designing them so far just to waste 5 minutes, and to add some variety to the big sea of plain red cars.

My designs are actually getting votes as well :-D
#29
good on yah. I've been doing a little design work. but for me anyway, i find the site very laggy to use. so trying to put a personnel touch with some decals/brush work is difficult.
the few i have put time into could be mistaken for a 5 year olds ( me being 23 this is a little bad) :(

so for now i just tart them up a little but avoid "going" for a personal look due to lag.
#30
if I'm reading it right, the MS points cap has been reached. they have no more to give out ?
shame, I've been stuck on 350 for ages :(.
#31
Darn, is that why im not getting anymore poits? Im stuck at 700 points, 100 short of getting a 800 point game I was wanting. :(

THink they will increase the cap????
#32
In the unliekly event that anyone trawls up this old thread - check you emails - you should get the points from this offer today

I just got mine and a coupel of people on the Xbox.com forums have confirmed just receiving theirs
#33
Got mine Earlier

http://www.shonk.org/CheersMSN.jpg
#34
Oh and spent them as well before they change theyr minds
#35
12320  lol don't blame you - i'm trying to get another 100 so i can get the Legenday pack on Halo - will have to trawl ebay and the like i think

Still, free points isn't to be sniffed at, glad they finally came through!
#36
i have 18 100 pointers left the ones they sent ages ago
