Ordered these after seeing them recommended by member khaichee on another thread for the Verbatim discs at £16.99 -- These deserve their own thread as they are significantly cheaper and come with much better reviews, including reviews from members on here who have reported them as "no coaster" discs and good for Wii back-ups....

Don't forget Quidco and the 5% code. Total price I paid yesterday is £12.28 with both and they dispatched today...

i bought these a couple of months back, and are great discs i have had no coasters so far! No problems writing on either mac or pc either.
#2
Can anyone tell me what dye these discs use please??
#3
Also bought these a couple of months back, out of about 80 only a couple of coasters, so pretty happy.
Been posted quite a few times but not for a while, worthy of a repost!

I bought a 25 pack of the +Rs to try a while back; Ritek dye, I think Ritek F1. They.ve produced the first coasters I've had in years, so I'm not keen.

These were good for me 200 discs with NO coasters. Will be ordering so of these (unless I find some more verbs at a bargain price!)
#6
I've got about 30 left out of my second pack of these and not a single coaster yet, already bought a third pack of them at Xmas time!

It may just be a compatibility issue with my PC and laptop burners but these Maxell discs have been the worst branded DVDs that I have had in terms of failure, either by failing during the burn process or where sucessfully burned DVDs have had playback problems.

I have since switched to either Sony of TDK and I cannot recall any failures with these.

Good price but my personal experience is that Sony and TDK DVDs are more reliable.

I agree, i think these are awful and nero scans are terrible using these......they may work ok now but will they work in a couple of years time ?

Don't agree about the Sony & TDK bit though, i much prefer genuine verbs

I would prefer to pay an extra £4 and get some verbs

Same here. Always used the Verbatims as had problems with other media and Verbatims always work for me

Just had these delivered a few days ago. A bargain at what I paid for them, 14.99, a real bargain at 12.99..! No coasters so far - seem to be quality discs. Heat added.

Been using Maxwell's for the last couple of years (he never complained! :)) and I never once had an issue or indeed a 'coaster'.

Well Hot deal! thanks.

I bought these a few months back.
I use them to transfer stuff I've taped on Sky plus onto DVD using a DVD recorder.
I've had about 10% coasters. so I won't be buying them again.
I'll go back to the Verbs or even Tesco own brand, I never had any coasters with either of those

Got heat from me i said about making it a deal in itself on the verbatim deal nice one ha ha i ordered look good:thumbsup:
#15
as with many other i got these when play did their 3 for 2 deals, i ended up paying less than 9p per disc! no coasters so far and i got 300 of the little guys! :whistling:
#16
i've had no coaster from my last 4 packs of these.

pretty good going!

Just bought the +R version for £14.99 (was also £12.99 when I bought the pack last year, but greedy Play raised the price for +Rs) the +R standard seems to be better for multi-session burning for PC burners & standalone DVD recorders, & I use them for my Liteon DVD/HDD recorder recording TV programs, seems to be quite reliable, the last batch I bought for the +Rs are CMC Mag dye (not as good as TY & MCC dye but good for the price), not sure about the -Rs.

Used a lot of these over the last few months and not a single coaster. Working fine for me so thanks for the heads up, time to stock up again.

... TDK DVDs are more reliable.
TDK used to be reliable for me but.... Reading data I'd written less than a year ago was becoming a problem so I compared the TDK's from 2-3 years ago (still readable) against those I bought last year and confirmed a change of dye. Shame that they would do this!

Verbatim's are now my choice of brand.

Ordered this twice. First time they sent, DVDs had been packed in a box that was around 4-5 times the size of the spindle, so on delivery, DVDs had broken and were everywhere. Complained.

On the new ones arriving, guess what?

yes, same thing, no padding added so the spindle was broken BUT it was still together. What a shambles.

steer clear of maxell disks. bought 100 and used them all with a failure rate of about 30%!

Normal failure rate using other brans is less than 1%!

maybe be careful with blanket statements based on your own experience. It could well be your burner or a bad batch. I'm now on my second pack of these, and out of 130 or so burns I have had one failure, and that was probably because I had my speed settings too high for an ISO I was burning.

must have burnt about 2000 disks on my burner and have at worst a 1% failure rate.

A 30% failure rate is terrible. As for being a bad batch, the failure seemed to be spread across the first 10-20 and last 10-20 disks in the pack. A bad batch is warning enough for me to avoid this brand from now on as their QC is obviously poor

Fair enough. The 'top and bottom' of pack does sound concerning so maybe you're right about QC. If the same thing happened to me I'd also avoid them.
