The Samsung Spinpoint F1 is the first three-disk hard drive delivering a whopping 1TB of capacity along with sophisticated recording technology. With its compact, lightweight package and advanced design, the F1 drive offers many advantages for high-density applications compared to using two 500GB drives or a four- or five-disk solution. Compared to a five-disk 1TB solution, the F1 Series consumes 13-16% less power and provides up to 20% faster performance.

This 3Gbps SATA drive has a maximum of 334GB of formatted capacity per disk while also featuring Samsung's industry-leading NoiseGuard and SilentSeek technologies to eliminate acoustic noise. The Spinpoint F1 utilizes Samsung-developed perpendicular recording technology, which helps the drive set new records in both a real density and platter capacity.

The Spinpoint F1 requires fewer components than competing solutions while delivering enhanced reliability versus a 1TB drive with four or five disks or two 500GB disks. With fewer heads and disks, the F1 statistically has a lower probability of headdisk failures. According to estimates, this Samsung drive has a 50% lower failure rate than a two- 500GB-drive solution and as much as 31% fewer failures than five-platter 1TB drives.

Servers, high-end desktops, RAID systems and DVRs are among the applications well suited to the Spinpoint F1 drive. The drive is available with desktop PC- or RAID-level reliability. Mean time between failures for RAID reliability is up to 1.2 million hours. A rotational vibration sensor enables the drive to operate more efficiently in a RAID environment.

For consumer applications, a power-saving code reduces power consumption while AV-optimized firmware cuts time delays during AV data recording. In general, the Samsung drive offers a superior combination of density, recording quality and reliability.

Does this appear as 3 discs on your PC then or is it still going to appear a single 1 gig drive ?

They mean 3 platters - ie physical discs of metal on one spindle spinning within the casing. It's ONE physical drive as far as your computer's SATA interface is concerned. Then it's up to you how you partition/format it to suit your needs and depending on what computer operating system(s) you are using on it.

No idea why someone has 'Expired' the offer - go to the 'Today Only' listing to find it and should come up at that price.
#8
Amazing... shame I dont have the cash right now :( Still - these prices will continue...
#9
Who marked this as expired? it appears in stock to me (just added to basket)
#10
Why is this showing as expired?

I use a cheap IDE one that I got from ebuyer for £10 some time ago. Its great, although you will need to buy a more expensive SATA one for this and if you want the highest speeds you should use firewire.

EDIT: Im guessing this will work, although its not firewire:

Hi try
Stardom I302-1S-SB2 External aluminium Removeable SATA HDD Caddy Case (Outputs USB 2.0 + eSATA) £34.37 from Scan (use free delivery from AV forums) you can also buy additional storage caddy from Storage depot for £9.99 if require. I use this to swap Hard drives used for movie storage (4 so far). saves a lot of time + only one power source.

For highest transfer speeds you should use esata (3Gbps as opposed to FW 400 or 800Mbps)
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=788371

you may need an esata card too, this one also does internal RAID

Super Hot price for the drive, BTW, hope they keep falling...

great price!

im waiting on a 1TB external drive below £100 though. I've tried getting the 2 things separately but separate external enclosures are always a bit rubbish/unprofessional in design and build compared to all-in-one solutions from Freecom, Lacie etc
#18
fantastic price thanks :)

now just to find a cheap enclosure...

or a NAS package that will take this drive...
#19
Anyone able to confirm for sure if this is suitable for a diy upgrade of Sky HD box HDD (Thomson) from exisiting 300gb to 1TB? including if noisy?
#20
Good old Scan... These are dropping in price at a ridiculous rate lately. Right time to buy? Possibly. Just annoying that when I buy one it will dropp about another 40% so I might pretend to buy one now and get one for real next week...

Must stop inhaling Ajax!!!!

might be that elsewhere on the site it shows up more expensive ... must admit, quite tempted.
#22

#23
Do Samsung produce External Drives like the WE MyBooks and Seagate FreeAgents ?
#24
Wow, great deal.
#25
I was looking on Scan's website earlier, and they had it for £94 - 95 so they must of updated the price in the last hour or so. Really need a new hard drive I only have 13% remaining on my current 80GB WD :( Just can't afford one, if it's the same price on pay day I think I might get one.

I think it works out that each gb is 11p :w00t:

I don't know about the Sky box upgrade, but I have the 750Gb version and it's whisper quiet. I'd imagine this one would be the same.

There is someone on ebay with good feedback selling firewire enclosures for £17 delivered. They are also selling firewire enclosures for £16 delivered but the product description mentions a limit to 500gb discs.

I havent got one yet, but may do soon!!! I would email first to check they are 1Tb capable.

(search for 'firewire hdd')

The max is higher on usb2 but sustained rate on firewire is more.

Hey people.

I currently have a 320GB SATA inside my computer, and not sure if its in a rack or anything....

So how could I add this one to it so I have both the hard drives working together?

Never had more than 1 hard drive before Lol

Thanks in advance
