Saw these on the shelf at my local sainsbury's in Winchmore Hill, possibly nationwide as they had a proper Sale shelf barcode. Were £1.99 now £0.25.

Loads there today. Bought a couple and are quite tasty, loads of hazlenuts inside.

Not a short shelf life either, these expire mid December 2010.

Blue Bar wrapper, 'EMERGENCY' Chocolate Bar with Hazlenuts, 100g made by Bloomsberry Chocolate.

doesnt it say in the op?

Did anyone ever buy this at £1.95 for 100g? Thats much more expnsive than Green and Blacks.

Who makes this?

And why is it a 100g? An emergency bar should be small, maybe half that size.

Any why is the packaging sky blue? Its hardly appetising.

To think of it, I don't like that font face too...

If it was used for an emergency the last thing i would be caring about is the colour of the packaging....

I was just about to leave with a car trailer to load up a few boxes of these and as soon as I saw the clash of red writing (Emergency Chocolate) against a blue background I immediately thought "No .... this is too garish to keep in a glass cabinet" and drove the car back into the garage. I think I'll wait til Tesco bring out their much more pleasing Value Emergency Chocolate at this price point. Their Blue and Red against a White background is much less harsh to the eye .... why oh why do people not THINK of these things when designing Emergency Chocolate bar wrapping?

Gah, the irony of it.

I'd never seen these before, until I stumbled across them in my local Sainsburys this morning. I bought one just for the novelty factor - at the alarmingly high standard price of £1.99. Then I see this deal on hukd!

Admittedly, the bar I bought is in a white box, I assume it is the non-hazelnut variety. I didn't see any blue boxes there this morning, so maybe my local Sainsburys has opted out.

They also has a few other fun novelty packagings for this chocolate. "No weight gain" was one of the best ("guarantee void if packaging tampered with" etc)

The packaging is enough to make you think that 25p is actually the "real" price.

Pass.

In what manner are these emergency?

Is it a diabetic emergency or is it more a case of 'a fat bassa needs chocolate fix' emergency?

If its as I suspect the latter Maybe they should bring out an Emergency McDonald's supersize meal and Emergency Ironic Diet Coke cans as well.

Erm, no. It's suppose to be fun novelty packaging. But some people might not understand that.

It's just for fun; one of a range of chocolate bars with fun/novelty packaging.

Are the others in the range on sale too or only this one?
#12
They're being sold off because nobody wants to eat something that looks like it came out of the medicine cabinet. Even the contestants on The Apprentice could not have come up with a worse design or name for a bar of chocolate. How on earth did these ridiculous bars ever make it to the shelves??

I think it's well understood, but chocolate emergencies are far too serious to be treated as a "novelty". If such an emergency took place in, say, a swimming pool then that shade of blue would be almost impossible to distiguish against the background colour.
#15
Hahaha pains me for saying this, but I ROFL-ed at this thread...
Good for a gift or to keep in a manbag at full price, but now its cheaper than chips!

the most important question is "WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE " and please dont say chocolate !!
I mean cooking or edible ?

How preposterous a suggestion, readers .. why ... are you not aware of EMERGENCY UNDERWATER CHOCOLATE which is internationally recognised by its Red Text against a Yellow Background. This is the standard TerraFirma Emergency Chocolate which is MEANT to be Red Font against a Blue Background for a reason .. so Mountain Rescue personnel can see the bright packaging from approximately 800 yards away.
Thos unfortunate to have had to be exposed to the environment without nourishment and have had to resort to eat this life saving foodstuff will be waving the wrapper skywards to alert attention. So clearly this would not work underwater ...
Simple really - I dont know why people get confused about the two separate Emergency Chocolates! This would explain the queue of yellow jump-suited guys with helmets in front of me .... at the checkout
:whistling:

Fascinating Fact: Did you know that Westmoreland Emergency Helicopter Pilots carry an Emergency Chocolate Bar in their right trouser pocket and a Fun-Size bottle of Gaviscon in the other?. The former is for the victim ... and the second is for themselves. If you have seen the advert for Gaviscon that helicopter pilots regularly get indigestion and oesophageal reflux and clearly these two medications succesfully negate the effects of the other

Had these once before and am incredibly grateful to the paramedics for coming round so quickly. I really thought I was a gonna, if I hadn't have eaten the chocolate I might have lost some weight and got my fat ass out of the house. I was so fortunate.

You cant joke about matters such as Emergency Chocolate - I discussed this with the Rescue Team at the Sainsburys Checkout who were standing in an orderly queue in front of me .. loaded down with bags choc-full (sic) of the blue and red devils. "You can't joke about Emergency Chocolate, sir" he told me.

So there you have it ... from the people in the know. Emergency Chocolate is not a matter for mockery.

As an aside to find out if this Laughter-Law applies to all brands of chocolate, I rang Thorntons and the helpful lady there clarified their standing.
"Continental chocolate are up for a bit of ribbing, sir", she said "But any sarcastic comments about our Classic range is punishable by law"
Well!! There you have it, viewers .. in brown and white!
#22
Won't somebody please think of the children?
#23
this should be .999p surely?
#24
I've tried the red one. It's edible chocolate, but don't expect a zillion percent cocoa solids or handcrafted by Belgian monks. It's just run-of-the-mill chocolate (Dairy Milk style, though not sure if this one is milk or dark). Good for a laugh, but this wouldn't be on my regular shopping list (except at this price :) )
#25
A top deal for fat lasses....certainly going without chocolate for more than a couple of hours feels like an emergency to them - gotta keep those bingo wings topped up :w00t:

Can I just how pleased I am to finally see that someone is willing to stand up and be counted when it comes to emergency chocolate and its correct use. All too often this is just not seen as a serious issue and discounted all too easily.

Thank you for bringing this issue to my awareness! :p

Actually the real application for Emergency Chocolate isnt as some kind of therapeutic medication ... it means "I''ve run out of money/space/cocoa solids and I'm desperate to eat anything thats chocolate-looking" .... therefore taste is a low priority when purchasing.
The long sell by date is easily acheivable because only 4% is made of chocolate and the rest is papier mache!
5p is how much it costs to manufacture the chocolate itself
15p is how much it costs to make the expensive packaging ... did you know that the same people who designed it also did the logo for the 2012 Olympics! Wow!

my brother-in-law gave my wife the emergency chocolate bar and the no weight again bar for her birthday and this is just to say that we ate it and the chocolate is lovely, it's swiss chocolate so if cadbury's is your thing then do not part with you 25p but if you like swiss which I do then this chocolate is for you!

They didn't have this one at my local Sainsbury's; but I can confirm the other bars in the range were full price.
