1080p at 25fps , pretty much only good for recording Minecraft tutorials then

Why, do you get bogus crash for cash claims in Minecraft then?

In what situations would this be useful? I can understand cyclists wearing helmet cams but why this? Voted hot nonetheless, looks like a good deal.

- Anytime you need evidence that someone has damaged your car (with a sensor, can record if someone reverses into your car whilst away for example)
- As proof of no blame in an accident situation (look up 'crash for cash' for a very good reason this is useful)
- If you're Russian, recording aircraft crashes, shootings, meteorites, moose attacks, sinkholes etc for amusing the rest of the world on youtube.
- pointing inwards and amusing the rest of the world on the more 'adult' versions of youtube ;-D

Don't know, I've not seen these at Lidl before, but if it isn't taking it back shouldn't be too much of a problem.

And the price is good for a 1080p dashcam from the UK with a 3 year guarantee.

I would get one had I not recently bought a G1WH for a little under £30 from China, which is an excellent 1080p dashcam providing you don't receve a faulty unit, although it requires a replacement USB adaptor and cable as the supplied one causes severe FM interference. And then there's the risk of customs + £8 RM handling charge. I'll also be amazed if it lasts 3 years in the heat of a car without at least requiring a replacement battery.

The wide angle mobius is ago supposed to be very good (no LCD, but very discrete) and frequently available from the UK warehouse of banggood.com for about £45. The g1wh and mobius both have an Aptina AR0330 1/3" cmos sensor, which is fairly good in low light, and a Novatek NT96650 CPU .

25fps is broadcast rate and above film rate. not sure why you want anymore for a dashcam.

I have an e-Prance mini 0803 bought via Amazon. If you want one that hides behind the rear view mirror, that is worth a look.

I recorded a van going through a red light last night, deliberately drove round me after I stopped. The footage is so clear you can even pause and read the number plate.

I'd rather spend a little extra and get a Mobius with a wide angle B lens. 25fps.... The standard is 30fps. Can't imagine the bit rate would be very high

last week i had the e-prance G1W dash cam and fair play its pretty damn good! even at 720p its really easy to work out the other cars plates. not done the full 1080p yet as with 720 you can just about get 5 hours of footage but great for my long commute to work :) highly recommend any dash cam these days

Does your camera gets activated on impact when car is parked? I am getting sick of idiots leaving scratches and dents on the sides of my car at car parks and driving off without leaving a note

25fps is the standard in the UK. The bitrate also depends on the amount of compression.

UK mains is 50hz, so you'll notice mains lighting flickering if recorded at 30fps (led street lighting should be ok). PAL TV is also 25fps. I've noticed flicker from street lighting and shop lighting on the recordings from a g1wh, although it is not too annoying.

The Mobius is good, but at best you'll only get a one year guarantee. The three year guarantee that comes with this makes it well worth serious consideration, providing the quality of its recording turn out to be good. It's a very harsh environment for dashcams, being stuck in direct sunlight in the windscreen of a car, even during a typical British summer

Best deal I found for the Mobius when I was after a dashcam was about £45 from banggood UK warehouse, which is also a bit of a bargain when they have stock. They run out of stock in the UK very quickly though, and are currently out as they're only listing china warehouse at the moment, but seem to get more fairly frequently:- http://www.banggood.com/Mobius-Action-Camera-1080P-HD-Mini-Sports-Camera-Wide-Angle-Edition-p-917817.html
You'd also need to buy a 5V psu, a long usb cable and a windscren mount.

Another G1WH owner here. Bought mine from bangood.com worked out about £32 delivered with no customs charges, the $ rate right now is fantastic. Like earlier poster said, the cable does cause FM disturbance. Link here: http://www.banggood.com/Full-HD1080P-G1WH-LCD-Car-DVR-Recorder-G-sensor-Novatek-NT96650-p-916394.html

Any other owners can post a link to a good replacement charger?

The other issue I found with mine is the mount is rubbish, it flies of the windscreen every now and again due to poor quality mounting bracket and fittings. But overall really happy with it, excellent quality even good at night.

This one from Lidl looks good, for £40 it could save you a fortune and I feel a lot safer knowing I have some backup evidence.

Think you need to buy an SDHC micro card for it though, they are quite cheap though.

False insurance claim, if a kid ran out of nowhere and you hit them, you'd have evidence. Crashes in general. Plus I'm with swiftcover and get 10% off my insurance with them.

I pull in front of you and slam on. I intended to do this. you drive into the rear of my car. I then have a claim against you. And then a few others materialise from other occupant's in the car that you never even saw.

Think that is how it goes down. But if you have proof of what I did to make to crash into me (dashcam) then you can argue you were driving as The Highway Code teaches and leaving space in front of you and the crash was my fault. Also that there was only 1 person (or however many) in the car you hit.

Hey dude, I think i hit it lucky with with G1W as the mount is a **** to get off the screen. Works so well. 720 vids are just great. THis is one I took on my first run:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2uq5eUDcos

Alrerady caught a n00b parking stupidly at a junction :)

I have got a 5m cable and ran it from the top of the windscreen (the cam sits right behind my rear view mirror), around the car and plugs into a battery pack (one of the mobile phone festival chargers). this in turn can be easily plugged into the usb car port. Its a nice setup as I too (like other users) seem to get hit while parked in the street.

My buddy in work also got one (not as lucky as the first cam didnt work) but amazon were awesome to replace it.

THis vid was taken at 848x480 in the dark and it was too bad at all:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYHiIo07dVk

with the 32gb card 720 will take roughly 5 hours of footage (possibly more like 4.30) but with the 848x480 res, its about 14 hours.

Highly recommend this cam and its cheap too!

THis is what I got with the 32gb card:

Honestly, not used the lidl's one but seems like a good cam and combinmed with £5 off a £40 spend might be good.

The guys in work and I been looking at them all week and settled on the G1W. Im going to upload a few more vids that we tested just to get a good range

I got 2 x 2.1amp psu from cpc but it still causes slight fm interference if reception is poor so I can't recommend it (I couldn't get anything but hiss using the supplied 5v adaptor). I've since checked the power consumption at 5v and it is less than an amp, so a 1 amp adaptor should be fine. I'd suggest also getting a clip on ferric bead to suppress interference, and maybe a shielded cable.

I've since seen this power supply, which can be programmed to turn off if the car battery voltage gets too low and can also be set to delay power up by a few second if the voltage drop starting the car causes the camera to reboot. The lack of reservior capacitors might be an issue and there's no guarantee it doesn't interfere with FM too.

The mount that came with the G1WH I got from Bangggood for £29 is fine. It has not come off the windscreen once, but does take a firm push to get the camera clipped into it securly so it doesn't wobble. You can get a mount that clamps around the stem of rear view mirrors from ebay. Ideally I'd like to get a low profile suction mount that holds the camera lens closer to the windscreen to cut down on reflections.

I get roughly 5 hours recording at full 1080p on the G1WH with a 32GB card. I went for the G1WH in preference to the G1W as there seems to be fewer faulty versions and fakes also it doesn't have the shiny chrome ring around the lens to attract attention to it.

This is the one
It has motion detection, not sure about G
My car for some reason leaves the power socket on when the ignition is off, therefore I can leave the camera on if I choose to do so.
I forgot to unplug it the other day and it was on all day and didn't flatten my battery which was a bonus oO.
You can also get hard wire kits and choose between always on and ignition on/off depending on your needs.
Don't forget it won't capture anything other than what it sees out of the front window though. You would need four cameras for complete coverage. Also with motion detection or G, it may be that whatever triggered it could be long gone before it is captured on video.

These are a good idea in my opinion, though most motorists are more like to incriminate themselves with these rather than exhonorate themselves. It's possible to work out a vehicle's speed with these, so if you hit a child and you were speeding before hand, it will be used against you.. Which is good.

This is a still image taken from the paused video that my Mini 0803 filmed yesterday.
Given that the van was going quite fast after having overtaken me when I stopped at the lights, I think the clarity is pretty good.
Taken at 1080 30fps and I have cropped the picture as it was a lot wider.

I also have the G1W great camera crap mount if it breaks sure I can sort it easy though
All ways have mine at 1080p found it lots better than 720p setting seem to miss frames at 720p
Well pleased with it got mine ebay £24.50 inc delivery from china watch out though lots of fakes of this camera
You can tell fakes lot worse quality records in AVI not MOV still 1080p but does not look it
Be interested see how good this lidl one is like as car cams seem to vary lots in quality as you can pay loads for crap ones
Hard wired mine as well plenty of f DC to 5v DC converters on ebay for about £1.40
Priced up hard wire kits nearly as expensive as cam lol old usb lead bit soldering jobs a good one

That looks like a good camera. I have been looking for a few years now.
Can I ask, do you have it wired in? One review mentions it.
And what model and SD card do you have.
I would prefer this over the Lidl one.
In love Lidl but a high number of Silverlight products failed I would avoid just from experience.
