Size L
Up to 10Mb fibre optic broadband
Size M (picked cheapest as virgin phone is a rip off and we all use mobiles now)
Unlimited weekend UK landline calls

Internet is quite good. i got 16mb with o2 at the moment but i only get 6-9mb,mostly 6mb. virgin media uses optical fibre so you get constant 10mb and the internet is good as well.

Quidco is £65 and you also get first 3 months for £5 so it averages to £14.57 over 12 months.

The £20 only seems to apply if you get TV as well?
#2
just went through and The £20 wont apply as TV only, makes it an ok deal but not special for me.
#3
I was told by an operater that line rental is not included this is £11a month
#4
fibre optic to your street......

Coaxial to your door
#5
i included the line rental, thats why its broadband + phone
#6
Why does it say this below add to basket
When you take a Virgin Phone line for £11 a month.
#7
when you go to basket/checkout, it will tell you the total mothly cost. which includes phone and broadband.

broadband is only £14 a month with phone(£11) so altogether its £25. but when you use quidco and only pay £5 a month for the first 3 months, it works out to £14.57

Not really the way the site works mate... You post the price as is. Quidco is a bonus!

Yup can't include quidco as its not guaranteed, so 25 quid for phone and broadband, not exactly cheap and is traffic managed to hell. I would love to transfer to Virgin but the traffic management is a killer for me, after a short time of downloading at the top speed your connection would drop down to the 2 meg, better to go ADSL and at least your speed is constant.

most ADSL isps are traffic managed too....I believe the only non traffic managed isp is SKY and its only on their MAX package

wrong as drops to 2.5mb and only for 5 hours per day and only then if you have downloaded over 2.4GB between 10am and 3pm or over 1.2GB Between 4pm and 9pm.

10mb is:-

Maximum Throttling Duration is 5 hours at 75% reduced speed (if you download over 2400MB between 10AM and 3PM.

Traffic management is a major issue for us as there are 4 users. Most evenings we get managed and 312 kb/sec download and 16 kb/sec upload between 4 users is a pain. But as nobody wants to pay more rent I'm stuck.

why not restrict utorrent etc between 4-9pm to only dl at a lower rate on each user so you dont get shaped (use the utorrent scheduler).

and make sure you have utorrent protocol enabled and allow incoming legacy connections so that your ISP cannot detect utorrent is running.

Experiment with Protocol Encryption
Some ISPs love to act like Big Brothers and constrict bandwidth for P2P protocols. Protocol
Encryption in most of the torrent clients helps to over ride this bandwidth shaping. Enable
outgoing protocol encryption and put a checkmark on Allow Incoming Legacy Connections.
With protocol encryption, ISPs find it difficult if not impossible to detect that the traffic is
coming from BitTorrent. Experiment with enabled, disabled and forced options because you
could be getting better speeds with encryption disabled. Non-encryption makes a torrent
connection compatible with someone who is not using encryption but as a minus it makes the
torrent detectable but an ISP with a bandwidth restricting policy.

We have a ban on torrenting during the evening. Were are on 10mb M so we only get 750mb between 4 users over 5 hours. Thats only 37.5mb each an hour. So iplayers or the like is out no pic or video downloads. It's net and a few youtube videos and thats it. I even turn the audio player off on myspace.

fair enough although I would keep utorrent running but just say dl/ul limit is 0 between 4-9pm so you dont have to remember to stop / start utorrent.

Its just set on the timer to come on a 12. Normally get trafficed about 7.00-7.30 time so dont get full speed back until midnight as it 5 hours after hitting download limit, but I think midnight it seems to reset it. Its great when everybody's out for the evening I get to use the internet like normal people

It's a shame Virgin are allowed to get away with this. Caps are too low. The fact that the bandwidth is alot higher than the cps means that the throttling kicks in very quickly. I rarely ever get my "paid for service"..

Even after getting up in the moring (modem switched off over night) and am throttled when I switch on, on occassions.

Service from Virgin stinks in every department. My brother tells me that they constantly contact my sister to add services to his account, despite the fact thet he has informed them on several occasions, they have no right.

He said under no circumstances are you to discuss my account with any unauthorised people (don't know how they explained not using security questions?). The reply he got was we can discuss anything we like with whoever we like in the household. I think my brother explained enough for them not to pester again.

I have many more stories of how Virgin have violated customers rights and illegally charged, but would not like to go on.

Virgin are terrible for throttling back bandwidth over the weekend I was getting less than half a meg, around 9pm the master cpu opens up the system and tron can live.

This is a good deal if you can get all the cashback:

£50 from Virgin - Online new customers only

£65 from Quidco - New customers only

£30 Refer a friend - Each for you and a friend if they are existing customer and you ring up and say they referred you.

£15 off installation (usually £30) - If your place alredy has the cable socket and you can install yourself
It is annoying that they make you get a phone line, but you can claw back the cost with all the lovely cashback.

The £50 has been reduced to £20.
The reps are complete liars, tied me into a 12 month contract because I was about the leave and they offered me a 'free' wireless router to stay. Never told me that would lock me into a contract. I took the router, now 8 months on the internet price has gone from £10/month to £20, I gave them cancallation notice and the bints tell me I am in a 12 month contract from the date they gave me their free router.

AVOID THEM.

its a myth that you are "locked" into a new contract. Can they produce a signed contract? Telephone agreements are not legal.

so they havent got a leg to stand on in court.

Maybe true but if you have accepted the service and used it, it could be argued that you accepted the verbal contract. Only thing is they never told me I would be in a 12 month contract if I took the 'free' router they offered! :cry:I've put a dispute on file and will take it to the small claims court.

only if they have a recording of the telcon

Just nopticed that this month they have put the BB charge up from £18 to £20 so I reckon they have broken the contract terms anyway as the agreement was on the price not changing for 12 months. Gonna call today and insist they upgrade to 10mb for free else I'm off to talktalk (8mb bb, line rental, free local/weekend calls for £16.49 a month!).

they didnt even tell me it had changed either

check your VM bills!
#30
I just renewed my contract with VM for 12m

Gave notice to cancel and within a week they called and offered me the following:
L BB: 10MB + L Phone: Unlimited Eve & Weekend calls + Free Wi-Fi router

All for £20.95

Not worried about Quidco as I already got £100 when I first joined VM :)

I have waited for 2 months for an installation before giving up and getting BT. Virgin kept postponing the installation week after week, everytime they called me it was a different employee, impossible to get anyone reasonably prepared to help you. Definitely do NOT recommend Virgin!!
