£12.50 for 1 years Streetcar membership and 1 hour of driving in a VW Golf worth £66 incl. petrol, insurance and congestion charge - Save 81%
Streetcar is the UKs biggest pay-as-you-go car club, giving you access to cars parked on streets around Oxford, London and other UK cities.

As a member, you can book Streetcars online, or with your mobile by the hour, a day or a month. Then just walk up to the car, use your Streetcard or iPhone to unlock, then drive like its your own. Take it on an adventure (or to the shops) and when youre done just bring it back, lock it up and forget about it.

Streetcar gives you all the convenience of owning a car, with none of the costs and hassle. Tax, insurance, maintenance and petrol are all included and rates start from just £4.95 per hour for a shiny VW Polo. Compared to owning a car, Streetcar can save you over £1500 per year.

Streetcar membership and 1 hour of driving normally costs £65.45, but with todays MyCityDeal its just £12.50! Go get your drive on, with Groupon.

REVIEWS:

"So far, I've used a Street Van twice, and the process couldn't have been more simple. No problems with the vehicle and no problems with billing. And when I've been out and about driving the vehicle and found I needed more time, all I had to do was send a text to Streetcar, and they extended the booking!"
YELP

"They have cars parked all over the city and my closest garage is at the end of my street, so it's almost like having my own car. Even trips to IKEA are more bearable (although IKEA itself remains resolutely unbearable) thanks to the Streetcar van hire. I haven't had a bad experience or a bill over £25 for a day's hire - and they pay for the petrol! You just go online or call Streetcar, book your nearest vehicle and go. It's a no-brainer. If you like or need to drive occasionally but can't keep a car in London, this is an invaluable service."

Great deal.

Many thnaks!

If you take up this offer, don't forget the iPhone app that will enable you to unlock the car remotely.

I hear in the next update you will be able to drive it from the back seat with touch screen control. I believe the chavs will appreciate this function as their front seats can only recline so far back. The fact that most Streetcar cars are VW Golfs is the icing on the cake for that demographic.
#12
You can join their competitors Connect for free and 1 hours driving could cost as little as £3.95

Connect by Hertz are doing free membership and an hour driving a golf will cost you £5.95

Good deal though if you have a Street Car near you.

I like Connect by Hertz a lot, as it's cheaper and more flexible than most.

However, since I moved out of central London I don't have a Connect car anywhere near me. StreetCar does, OTOH... so I've been waiting for a cheap Streetcar deal to come along.

I've been a member of Zipcar for a while now (they were offering free membership for members of other car clubs), but although they now own StreetCar they haven't merged the fleets yet.

23p per mile for "petrol" after the first 30 miles a day for shorter hires.

A trip to drop someone off 200 miles away and return would cost almost £89.10 in "fuel", or as most cars speedos over read by 10% its over £98.

It would be cheaper hiring a car outwith this scheme and filling it yourself for longer runs!

Van hire costs more than normal van hire, and with a mileage charge for over 30 miles and an large insurance excess!!!!

Despite including insurance - there is an excess of £750 - but you can pay a monthly feel to drop this.

COLD

The only potential benefit if if you want to "deliver" something and can manage it in a short period of time over a shortish distance, and are happy to risk your £750.

Hi does anyone know if this offer will still be valid in September? We are thinking of using from kings cross to Hilton docklands, one way. (taxi approx £27),Cheers:roll:

I believe you can't do one way trips, only returns, as each car in a fleet lives in its own designated bay and must be returned there at the end of your trip.
#21
Voting cold because you don't understand the point. How many 200 mile day trips do you do? Streetcar is for the occasional short trip eg for shopping. You're also paying for the convenience of having a car nearby and not having to own a car or go all the way to a rental place. They are also good for longer breaks where you get free petrol for longer than 2 day bookings. This is a hot deal.

I'm sorry but you seem to have misunderstood the point of 'Car Sharing' its not the same as car hire, which is what you seem to be comparing it to.

If you need a car 3 or 4 times a week to do the shopping you can 'rent' it for those 2 hour periods for much less than you would hire a car.

If you need to pick up a table from IKEA etc that won't fit in your mini then you leave your mini in the IKEA car park and take the Van, pop home, drop the table home come back and pick up your car - potentially costing you under 10 quid inc diesel .

So where can you hire a van for less than that?

Having an 'excess' is standard across the car hire industry, its usually between 500 and 800 pounds - unless you pay an excess waiver.
#23
Great idea in theory, not much use for us Northerners though. It would have been great for me a few weeks ago when my son "stole" my car and I had to get to a hospital appointment.

i dont see why you cant just fill the car up yourself and not put it on the card..it will cost alot less around 10-15p per mile.

The pence per mile takes into account other things like depreciation and wear and tear.

The whole point of the 'Car Sharing' revolution is to provide cars for those people who only need cars rarely and for things like shopping trips.

If you want the car for a whole day then you are better off hiring a car for a day and then you can refuel and have unlimited mileage.

Car Sharing isn't meant to compete with car hire, its a totally different product.

You can do one-way trips with StreetCar, but they will charge you at least £24.50 to collect the car and return it to its parking bay. So in this case the taxi will be cheaper...

The amount they charge you per mile is based on tracking the mileage you've actually driven, by tracking the miles on the clock and/or the GPS location of the car. So if you pay for the fuel yourself you'd end up paying for the fuel AND the per-mile charge.

£750 insurance excess !!!
banned#30
I was just about to go for this cos i just realised theres a car about 100 metres away from me, and then i realised its downsides. May not be a problem to many, but for me the fact

Only 30 miles a day included is a bummer, cos that can be clocked up quite quickly
Extra mile costs of petrol is more then it would cost if you filled it up yourself
You have insurance but the excess is £750
And theres monthly fees if you dont want to pay the excess.

May be a good deal if u take it for mon-fri for £165 cos that works out to £33 a day, which is better then £49.50 (almost £250 for mon-fri) and you get 1000 miles (200 a day) to drive it, as opposed to 150 (30 a day).

What i would like to know is what happens if you book it for an hour and then dont return it for say 3 hours? Also, lets say you have it for more then 72 hours and petrol is free (for 200 miles a day), when you run out of fuel, how do you refuel it? Will your membership card work at pumps or do you pay and get reimbursed? Also, lets say i take the car and drive it into central London (i know u dont pay congestion charge), parking will be a problem. Would i be able to park in a bay that is usually reserved for a street car in Central London, that someone else has taken out thus leaving the bay empty or will that not be allowed? Also if you park elsewhere and you get a ticket, i know that would be our fault and we should pay for it, but what if it was a camera ticket that was posted to street car asking them to pay within 14 days for half price fine or full price after 14 days, and by the time street car contacted me to pay for it, the discount period may pass??

Also, what i would like is the flexibility, if i wished to, say, leave work one day and i cant be bothered to take the tube home, so i find a street car on my iphone, walk for 5-10 minutes, find it and drive home. It would be great if i could do that and park the car in the mystreetcar spot which is 100 metres away from my house, but i wont be able to, cos street car will expect me to drive back to central London and park the car where i picked it up from :( Unless i pay them some ridiculous amount of money to have the car picked up.

Some interesting points there, most of which are answered on StreetCar's FAQ.

You can't park a StreetCar in another StreetCar's parking bay. I'm not sure if they have any arrangements for parking in central London - I believe Connect By Hertz does have some parking arrangements so StreetCar might.

The situation with parking/speeding tickets would be the same as if you'd hired a car the traditional way.

Free one-way hires would be great, but I understand that it would be a nightmare to manage. They would probably end up with all their cars out in the suburbs in the evenings, or if there's a major event a large part of the fleet could end up in the same place. How do they make the car available for another member to hire if they have no idea where it will end up?

That sounds a right nightmare compared to letting Ikea deliver for £20. And I am not quite getting your point - every ikea has a van for hourly hire under this scheme?

Hi, Does anyone know where there's other offers for StreetCar membership currently on?
