Packs of 12 AAA alkaline batteries are 88p in my local Asda in Carlisle. There was no reduced label, they were just alongside the other batteries.

Presumably they're a discontinued pack size - they were next to packs of 16 of the same kind that were priced at £4.60. (16 pack on the Asda website: http://direct.asda.com/ASDA-Long-Life-AAA-Batteries---16-Pack/001134706,default,pd.html )

I've bought these before and they're decent batteries.

Presumably this is national in stores that still have stock.

I've found them on the Asda website priced at £3.50

Mysupermarket shows them as being £99999.00X)
Long life. Hahaha. If its ASDA quality it will last you a week, if you are lucky. i would prefer buying better quality for more money

You can waste money if you want - the big brands are overpriced for what they are.

Don't take my word for it though - I've found a site with some tests that compare the life of different brands of AAA alkaline batteries - here.

Some of the battery life figures from that site:

Asda long life batteries: 3 hours 36 minutes
Tesco long life: 3:37
Sainsburys extra long life: 3:42
Energizer Ultra+: 3:46
Duracell Plus: 3:16
Duracell Ultra: 3:41
Kodak Max: 3:09
Procell are king imo
But at this price you would be mad not to have a punt

also in asda great bridge
Since it Alkaline it should last long time. The zinc batteries don't last long, they are only suitable for remote controls. So when you buy batteries forget the brand, just check what's made out of.

Agree friends always get the Kodak ones from the pound shop but for anything less than a remote they are awful!!!

Hope they have some in York today

Ready Dead..
Just picked up some in poole Asda so not store specific. Thanx poster
Still some left at castleford asda.
Thanks for this, just stocked up as the kids toys eat these.
Signed and scanning at £3.50 in Radcliffe
