First deal I've submitted. Hope I've done it right.

Seems like quite a good offer. One year's membership of National Geographic Society and 12 magazines (plus occasional free map inserts) for £19 including postage PLUS a free fleece. Don't know what the fleece is like but the magazine is super.

Small print says you get your fleece and become a member as soon as you subscribe but don't get you first magazine for at least 8 weeks.

The fleece is really quite nice. My son got one last year and he wears it a lot. Quite good quality for a freebie. His is grey with yellow arms and detailing and the NG logo on the front.
His subscription has just run out but I am waiting for a better deal before renewing.
After a few weeks they normally cave and reduce the price dramatically if they think you aren't going to renew.

Can't you also get 12 issues for a few quids worth of Tesco Clubcard Tokens? Although that wouldn't get you the fleece I guess ...

yeh u can get gd deal with clubcard. Got this last year, they send you 2 at once after 2 months backdated 8 weeks. They counted that as the first 2 issues which i wasnt best pleased about, old news and all that! Sent them an email but they never replied.

My girlfriend subscribed recently and she's had her first magazine within a month. I suspect that statement is like a "please allow 28 days for delivery" type thing to cover them if you subscribe just after publication of one issue and you may have to wait til the next or one after.

as for the fleece - it's a bit ropey quality, to be honest. and it looks like you would benefit from ordering one size up from what you would normally think. But hey, it's free... good enough for around the house or whatever! And for 12 issues of decent toilet reading, well worth the price without anyway!

I also took up the Tesco voucher, though I admit I felt a bit guilty about probably depriving NG of cash whilst simultaneously filling Tesco's coffers, but as I had managed to accumulate enough vouchers anyway it was just too good to resist. It was about £7.50 worth of vouchers for the year, for which Tesco sent me a further voucher. After sending the second voucher to NG my first issue (Oct 2007) arrived about 3 weeks later, so roughly a 5 week wait from first applying. Very well worth the small wait though. As for this deal, I'm still gonna vote it hot, even if I don't mind missing out on the fleece... :-D

good deal voted hot.
I recently subscribed to TIme through a post on here - it was £20 for the year and the amazing thing is it comes every week for that price! + a free watch.
National Geographic is excellent, I definitely recommend it - the fleece is really good too.

Slightly off topic but do you still have the link for the time deal?

I've had a search but can't find it on here and the only one on the web is £35

Cheers

Indeed, fleece from that domesticated '100% polyester' animal... I felt like a walking cheap plush toy / fire hazard, YMMV :)

Magazine's great, though.

i searched for the link but couldn't get it hmmm it was a link to a section of the TIME website with the offer.
it might be finished... as I can't find it. it was £21
it was a post for another magazine deals thing and the Time offer was within it. it was around new year.
I hope you get it!

My dad used to subscribe to the NG when I was growing up & I used to bug him all the time to make the 15 mile trip to the post box. Imagine my disappointment if it hadn't arrived. While growing up two issue covers , particularly , struck a chord with me. One was the holographic globe , the other was this photo of the afghan girl in the refugee camp. I hoped against hope that she'd survive and after the taliban fell I eagerly awaited news of her. She'd by now had a family. Life had been hard but she still had the same defiant/startling eyes. She didn't understand what all the fuss was about .. even now all she just wanted was for her daughters to have a chance of an education and treatment for her husbands simple curable ailment for which they had no money. Utter selflessness
It was very humbling !!

What a fascinating story. So glad she survived.
I suppose she never received anyrhing for that haunting picture - one of their best ever IMHO.

...After the talibans fall & during the search for her , several women came forward claiming to be the girl in the photo. Each time they were rejected by the original photographer. When he finally came face to face with the real girl he, he just knew... Her identity was further confirmed using iris-recognition technology which is unrivalled in biometrics... I happen to be an optometrist & find the technology fascinating.

For anyone interested, I asked about the size of the fleece when they confirmed my order and they said the only size they supply is 'Xstra Large' Should arrive soon so we'll see.
Offer still available BTW.

I subscribed for my son about a month ago - still waiting for any sign of the magazine, although I have had a letter suggesting that the fleece will be delivered shortly.
