Morrisons were selling for £25.99 last week - not sure if they still are - also available cheaper at the usual online outlets.

£30 is about average really and definitely not worth a special trip unless your averse to buying things online.
#3
Still @ £25.99 in Morrison's last night..

But for a vastly inferior service, no dedicated party chat, in fact no proper cross game party functionality at all. It also doesnt have the live exclusive titles and when I have played online on the ps3 the game servers are laggy and the overall the experience is no where near as good.

No one uses voice on ps3 games either. Why ? they dont include headsets with their consoles and the chat functionality is rubbish. Then you have avatars, the points system is much more developed not a bolt on after thought copy as with PSN.

You pay for what you get at the end of the day, I have had live for 7 years and the total cost to me with offers promos etc has been around £100. No cost at all for what youa re getting.

In any event Sony are rolling out a paid for service for the ps3 which will include some of lives functionality (but we all know it wont be as good)

Sony we dont charge for online gamming just like our console runs alternative os, has full backwards compatability. Sony are serial spec functionality downgraders with their consoles.

Even the most hardened PS3 fanboy couldn't say that Live is not the vastly superior service of the two.

I have a ps3 as well but dont play online I just use it for the decent exclusives, MGS 4, Killzone 23 etc.

I dont play the ps3 online as its not very good + all my mates are on live and will never migrate to the ps3 as the offering is not as good.

Its take MS 10 years to get live as good as it is at the end of the day. Most people that complain about £25 obviously havent used it properly or compared it objectively against PSN. If they did they wouldnt make such stupid comments.

What people fail to understand is the chat functionality especially the party system is a big part of live, most people justify paying the money just for that. Its a very social thing gamming wise, I know plenty of people who moved from pc gamming to live based on the excellent voice integration.

Yes, thats right Nellster.

And all food is rubbish value, as you can get it for free, off the floor and stuff.

Hey, i have seen many offers in the past for around £24 yearly subscription.
I'm sure these come quite often, need to shop around.
The price in this post is high. Can get lower if you look around.

While I fully agree with you you can hardly hold being called a "douche" by bratty American teenagers every round of COD up as a positive.

I have played online extensively on both PS3 and Xbox live and I must say Xbox doesn't offer much on what PSN offers for free. There is no lag on PS3, infact I see lots of childish members on XBOX who just talk rubbish throughout the game. What the use of voice chat if you have to mute the players?
There are loads of people playing on both so you find games quickly.
Live Party's .. yeah that's something nice but PSN can implement somethign similar with ease.

Still £25.99 at my morisons in Newport, Wales...

Also once ur subscription ends, revert to silver and u can then buy 1 month of gold for a £1 before activating your 12month subscription

Can`t see why this is so hot. Cheaper at Morrisons as per deal posted, and definatley cheaper at many online.

Yet another fanboy.

I regularly use both Xbox Live and PSN and they both serve their purpose, and have their own benefits.

Yes the PSN service is free, and does not currently have the chat, but what more does Xbox Live offer?

Microsoft expect customers to pay for everything, from Last FM, to being eligable for the 'Deal of the week'. Whereas Sony offer BBC Iplayer free of charge (something which Microsoft wanted on their console, but Gold would have been requirement. Talks fell through with the BBC as paying for the service is not within their remit), they offer deals that are available to everybody, for a longer period of time, and most of all, the service is completely free.

If rumours are true, and there is to be a subscription based service implemented into the PSN, things that they are apparantly going to offer is cross game chat, plus lots more, e.g. a free game per month, possible PSN store discounts, and Cloud based storage.

I do love Xbox Live and i think their service is great, hense having played 4500 games of 'Halo 3'. I just think that both services have something good to offer, so dont be so quick to criticise it.

@Alera

Yes the points system on the Xbox is more developed, but gamerscores can be artificially inflated (not sure whioch website did it, but they got a gamerscore of 10000 in 24 hours) where as the PS3 trophies allow you to see if people are any good via the number of gold and platinum in their collection.

I use both systems, PSN for 2.5 years, XBL for 3 months, much a muchness really. Party chat on XBL is good, but get a headset for PSN eg Warhawk, and it's much the same. Just mute the douchebags who just make noise.

And TBH I couldn't give a toss about avatars etc, I'm there to game, not to show off to internet keyboard warriors. Both systems do their job well, otherwise no-one would use them

Not bad but bought one for my daughter last week from Amazon for £27.97 without having to move off the sofa. However, it has gone up a fiver since I ordered it last Friday so this is the better deal now.
