Nice one.. im on a same priced deal with Xennews.
#2
just saw this deal aswell, 3 dollars cheaper than thier current $11 offer.

im not downloading anything really these days, whats the best offer for a PAYG offer? say 100gb for $5 ? :)
#3
I'll stick with the $11 offer. £58 is a lot upfront, whereas I don't really miss £7 or so every month

Voted hot though, a good deal.
#4
I got onto this place through here - and am on the $11 a month deal, which must be around £6/£7 - for the DSL package, which maxes out at about 1mb/sec.
I consider that a bargain, so this is much more so....I'm in.
#5
Astraweb is definitely the best usenet provider out there imo :)
banned#6
Would they allow existing customers to switch to this ?

Coincidentally, I got this yesterday from Xennews, which works out at about £17.50 for 100gb:-

You would have had more for less if you went with Astraweb.

180GB for $25 dollars which is about £15

I use Astraweb monthly sub of $11.

By the way, I wouldn't pay too far in advance. The RIAA have won a case against Usenet. It may all come tumbling down!!

Of course.. it's like asking if you can visit a different website like ebay or paypal on your broadband.:?

Will it max out a 20mb Virgin connection like Newshosting does? I pay them $15 a month at the mo, but they are very reliable and my Virgin cable connection is almost always maxed out when I download.
#14
No it isn't, some ISP's will manage nntp packets, whether or not O2 do though, I'm not sure.

Astraweb are definitely reliable but their retention has never been the best.
#15
Just Cancelled Giganews.

yes it does. i switched to astraweb from giganews to get the $11/month deal and i get 20M quite nicely.
#17
Great bargain if you download lots. I'm happy with the $25 for 180gb, that'll last me months. I've never had problems speed or retention wise with Astraweb. Its not one of the usenet providers that say they have 240 days retention and you can't get anything older than 200 days.
#18
how does this work exactly? what's it for?
#19
Whats the best usenet program to use with said service?
#20
I was getting 4Mb/s on a 50meg line and that was essentially me bottlenecking my 250 so could go higher . You will get your 2Mb/s+ no problem

Been using it for near on a year and not had any problems at all :)

Well I have been using NGroups but found them flaky and coming up to renewal so just took a shot at this for £60 a year,

Running at max on my 20Mb Virgin line straight away, looked for some 300 day old bins and pulled them straight down so far looks very good

Heat and Rep added.

Atm im using Giganews, but this is due to run out this month, so I'll either get this or use the free virginmedia usenet :) virgin = 7days retention galore!
#24
Sounds good, and would save me about £50 over the year. Just emailed Newshosting to ask if they can match it....long shot I know, and if not, I'm cancelling and going with this offer. Nice find!

As for person who asks what Usenet is for?

It's a truly beautiful thing that makes you wonder how you got along without it once you are used to having it. ;)

alt.binz v0.25.0 (the last free version)

Tbh, the most important part is probably finding a good NZB site. Zeropaid have recently had a couple of good articles for using usenet, including a list of the best NZB sites.

How to use a newsreader
How to download from newsgroups

It has some of them but only 7 days retention! And the completions are bad! Rely on Pars a lot.

Nope Google Grabit. Great news grabber
#33
This is a scorching price!! I'm with them already on the $11 deal. I won't be changing, but it's got to be a no brainer for anyone on Giganews or just starting out using newsgroups.

If you've got the money, get it while it's on.

HOT!!

You can get free ones like what's been mentioned. I personally use Newsbin Pro. It's easy to use and does everything I want it to do.

Hi everyone, neva used atraweb before, but it says DSL, but will it work with cable - Virgin Media

Also is there any SSL problems with this HOst - my current one, download2day has SSL issues with Grabbit?

Thanks

The "standard package" is 1Mbit, max

The DSL package is unlimited (Bad bit of naming really), maxes out a Virgin Cable 20m line no probs.

SSL works fine with grabit here.

any recommendations for good nzb sites?

Currently using nzb magic and merlins portal, but they seem a bit....lacking (used to using demonoid)
#38
I use Usenet-News and currently get 200gb for $27 on a block account very rarely has downtime and have used them for over 2 years 10% of headers not counted to usage an always maxes out my o2 16 meg service without fail (can pay by paypal). I have always used a block account as I find it more cost effective for the amounts I use. I download mostly 720p and get around 50 HD 4gb files or 200 american hd shows (True Blood, Heroes, Lost etc) for this amount and lasts me at least three months if not longer so around $9 a month anyway for me.

I use NZBMatrix. offer a free 20 day nzb service for $7 you can have a lifetime subscription with a years retention been with this site from the start and is now my first port of call even before newsbin another free one is binsearch

Piracy and porn by people unwilling to pay copyright holders for content or software. Theft basically.
