I just signed up to Virgin Media. It will cost £280 for the whole year to get broadband, a phoneline (with the phoneline you get unlimited free landline calls on weekends) and free Virgin TV.

It comes to this price because there is no connection fee (until September 30th), applying online takes £20 off your first bill and you get a free wireless router.

Then if you apply the quidco of £150 it comes to £130 meaning it is only £10.84 a month!!

I have amended the price to reflect the actual cost as not everyone in the UK uses Quidco and you can't include that as the actual costprice

the one that comes free with the phoneline

Should be £21.66 pm without quidco?
#6
Its basically freeview, however you get Virgin TV which means that you get loads of free programmes which you can watch whenever you want. I had Virgin last year and they have the full series of Peep Show and things like that

it was,not anymore!! now you have to have xl package to get tv choice on demand for free! you just get catch up tv free which is still handy to have though!

tv size m is pretty rubbish, like you said basically freeview, i couldnt live without v+ and tv xl now, especially now that they are adding HD channels!

are you sure your maths are right? this is what there site says!

£19.50 a month*
12 month contract
*When you take a Virgin phone line for £11 a month

£19.50 + £11 = £30.50 x 12 = £366 - £20 for order online £346 / 12 =£28.83 a month!

Cant say I had a positive deal with Virgin!

I signed up to Virgin this last week - not only did they charge me for free connection but they added £10 a month to my bill and asked meto pay for three months in advance! When I queried this they passed to to three seperate people all of who tried (at some point) to increase my package. The fact the call centre appeared to be "offshore" did not help. In then end I had to firmly but politely ask them to cancel my installation.

On a positive note - Quidco tracked OK at £150! Shame I wont get it now!

That seems right, so £195.96 per year (with £150 Quidco).

You might get lucky, a mate of mine ordered Virgin, they never turned up for some reason and he got his quidco money from them, that was last year when it was £65.

Good luck to all of you. I was with VM until July 2009 and I am glad that I finally made the switch to another provider, after two years of bad service and incorrect Direct Debits. Check your bank account regularely, they are gangsters.

Just checked the site and it says that I can get L BB, M TV amd M Phone for £15 per month + the quidco. I joined virgin a few years ago and pay £28 per month so I think that I might cancel and reapply online for this. Voted hot!

£150? You're being ripped mate, those boxes only sell for £90 usually. They are also illegal, as you are paying someone other than Virgin to receive the Virgin TV service. Its no better than using bittorrent, you're still a thief.
#29
Just noticed that you have to also pay £11 per month line rental on top of that

Trying to work out their packages online is a nightmare - quotes on £5 a month for 10Mb broadband and £14 after that, but it adds as £20 in the basket! ESPN quotes as free on XL but £8 in my basket. Silly.

They are also illegal...????

The "boxes" are perfectly legal......;-)

Wouldn`t have one myself as not worth the hassle. Looking over your shoulder all the time feeling isn`t what I enjoy. Never know when they`re gonna walk in your house and arrest you for having one. You pays your money you take your chance.

True, owning one is legal but actually using it is illegal. Gotta love the british legal system!

Still wouldn't have one, and if you're being charged over a ton you're being ripped off yourself whilst ripping off VM.

i have been with VM for over 6 yrs now and my tel & bband gradually ticked up from £10pm 12month special offer to £18pm and finally to £23.50pm,

Gave them a call, selected option for team that I want to leave, told them im going to sky as they are doing a package for £18.50pm for tv,bband & tel, and sky give you the sky plus box for that which allows you to record tv etc....(cleverly i said that as i know only ther HD box offers the record & pause functionality, therefore they would have to offer me the HD box to match sky, I didnt mention i was interested in HD as then they may have tried to sell me HD features for higher costs etc) Anyway They offerred me the following...

V+ BOX & Instalation FREE yes FREE no charges at all
Free Eve & W/e Calls, which i had anyway so cool
plus the continuation o fmy existing 2mb broadband, which i can upgrade to 10mb for free anyway be registering which i havent done yet.

All this for £26pm, that onlt £2.50 pm more than i was paying just for b/band and phone line so im happy.

I know i dont get quidco but hey, I do get HD..

if anyone thinks i can better this somehow then i still got 30days to cancel and my installation isnt for 6 weeks yet anyway, long wait for HD

Am I right in thinking that there has to be a cable already laid in the road in which you live or are they delivering services by sattelite or standard aeriel now?
