- Starts: 11/02/2010Asda have just released details that they will be selling 12 red roses for £2 starting from Thursday. This easily beats the offers from Aldi at £4.99. I obviously dont know what the quality is like as they have not been released yet but just a heads up in case anyone is thinking of making the purchase for a loved one....

Besides, if your loved one gave you a bunch (cos its not a bouquet) of roses which cost less than a pint or ten fags, how romantic would you consider that to be?

Im sure they'd b fine with it as long as they look good. If not shes the wrong woman for you.
Ultimately you wouldnt buy them if they looked sh*t.

Its not a quality forum its a deals forum.... It give speople the choice to decide if they want to buy the item..... Too many critical people on here.... you are your own person so decide if its right for you...

If she moaned about it, I would trade her in for a newer model.

Doesn't matter how much they cost as long as they look good, why spend £25+ if these look the same??
Basically the florists will bump the price up by 50% for the exact same flowers that you could buy the week before or the week after :x

I suspect they will also think you spent a lot more. "You shouldn't have. You must have spent a fortune." "Well, you're worth it my love"
You'll be in their good books until at least Easter ;-)

I think you'll find it's women that often trade cheaper models in for a more expensive model.
It's the thought that counts, but if your thoughts go straight to a £2 bunch of roses then you're not going to have to worry much about roses next year.
Having said that, these are perfect for your wife, after all you've done the hard part.

You sound like someone who got a slap in the face for Valentine's Day, rather than Roses. I bought these from Asda last year, as a last minute addition to the other stuff I'd bought for my wife. They opened up nicely in time for Valentine's Day and lasted for ages - the missus was really pleased with them.
As opposed to exploiting the buyers by making them ridiculously overpriced at this time of year, I know which ones I'd rather choose.

My missus had a flower shop and was basically drummed out of business by Tesco cynically selling flowers, below cost, whenever there was a traditional boom time for florists. Mothers day, Valentines day et al. These times kept florists in business and please remember that the price bumps during these special days are not due to the florists but due to the suppliers who have to bid more at the flower auctions in order to buy the flowers.
Asda are just carrying on the good work and none of these stores will be happy until there are no florists, record shops, butchers, greengrocers, clothes shops, sweet shops, bakers or any other small independant shops in existance.

It's progress of sorts, people want to be able to buy everything in one shop, not having to visit 10 different shops and pay more.
I must admit I fall into the category of wanting everything in one shop.

I know.
By the way, do not believe the hype that you are paying less in the supermarket.
At the moment leeks in Morrisons=£2.60 a kilo, leeks at the market=£1 a kilo.

Generally you'll pay more in the smaller shops. Of course there will be slight variations, most outnumbered by the actual convenience and other savings.
Getting back to flowers.
Maybe Adsa pricing the flowers at this price will force the suppliers to florist shops to have to cut their prices, it all has a knock on effect. The days of ripping off the public by hiking up prices for specific events might be a thing of the past.
