May be, it is likely that the power transistor is rated for one USB device power only, according to the specs of this USB Car Cig , it is rated at 0.5A at 5 Volts. So you are limiting to a few watts of power to power your devices. If you connect multiple devices then you probably need another power source to power your USB hub. Alternatively and cheaper, I re-cycle the use of an old USB 1.0 hub (as everyone now uses USB 2.0 or even USB 3.0) to power devices which needs just power (not data) through a USB connector e.g. portable 2.5" harddisk which needs additional external power through USB connector; USB laptop light etc. So look up your cupboard to see if you have such an old USB 1.0 hub.

Surely this isn't ideal for charging an iPad as it needs more power than the iPhone and iPods etc?
#6
Does it work for iphone 4?
#7
AFAIK you need 2.1A to charge an iPAD. I know my 5v 1A car adapter doesn't do it.

You can get these in Poundland. They have 2 USB slots and are White (sold as iPod/phone accessories).

Sold as part of their Signalex range, stock levels vary but I've managed to get a couple after a few visits. Poundland also sell the iPod-USB cable, decent iPhone car charger for £2!

Jeez, why didn't I think of that brilliant idea. I threw an old mains powered USB1 x 4 hub out last year. Knowing the above tip, it would have saved a lot of clutter from device plugs taking up power sockets. One plug socket for the USB hub could've taken care of 4 devices powering up via USB cables. :)

I'll second this comment, I've got one of the 2-way Poundland ones as well, works great, use it for satnav, phone etc without a problem. Saves a lot of clutter compared to my old 3-way socket splitter!
