What is the usual price of this holiday ? How can we vote if there is no indication as to how cheap it is ?
#2
the price is coming down daily as it is getting nearer holiday. with thomas cook you find their prices go down mid month and as it gets nearer to everyones monthly pay they rise again.

In addition to checking for bombs and stuff, the officials at our airports should also be checking for school kids going on holiday during term time.

Not all children go to school - some are under 5

spending time together as a family on a nice holiday is as valuable as anything that can be taught at school........its disgusting that travel companies are able to charge up to 200%+ during school holidays.......as for fining parents who do it......thats brilliant....penalise poorer families again....looks like we'll spend our summer in the back garden again in a tent in the pi$$ing rain. Yeah.... Lets fine these families for trying to give their children something they never had and the money can go in the pot to help all the dole scum and smack-eds in the country....

Agree with the final part, but we all managed fine thirty years ago with uk seaside holidays,so perhaps appreciate what we have rather than showing kids it's great to aim for the unaffordable ?

I am all for family holidays BUT not in school term time. The best thing to do would be for Travel companies to reduce prices and keep them the same all year round, although as they are a business this is not going to happen.

Taking a child out of school for a week is not to bad, but two weeks and they will drop behind in almost every subject. Whilst this may not be so bad for younger children, those who are in secondary school can end up being well behind others class. I would think carefully before taking a child out of school. I know two weeks doesn't seem like much but teachers only have the time to cover the curriculum once so if they miss out on what is being learnt that week they won't get the chance to learn it again.

As for the fines, I am not a fan of those either.

EDIT: I also agree that 'spending time together as a family on a nice holiday is as valuable as anything that can be taught at school' but it doesn't need to be done at the same time when there is the option to do it in the numerous holidays that the children are given. As the user above said, people can always holiday in the UK if money is an option...

Can I just point out that taking a holiday inside the UK during school holidays is pretty pricey too, especially when you have a number of kids?
Just did 4 days in the Peak District in a pine lodge, including a couple of day visits to Alton Towers.
Came to well over a grand, not factoring in food and sundries.
Britain is pretty expensive. It gets to a point where it isn't a huge leap in price to go over seas.

I always holiday in the UK, mostly scotland and north wales - but with two under 4 kids trying to teach them about nature and their surroundings in force ten gales and horizontal rain doesn't go down too well and as already mentioned it is nearly as expensive to holiday in the UK now. I'm not looking for 5* hotel with 42" plasma and heated pool with lobster thermidor for lunch! Last time I looked to take the car to go camping in N spain (cantabria) with the kids it was over £2000 JUST for the ferry alone.....I just want to go away with a 90% chance of the sun being there without having to harvest a kidneyoO
