This is a gamer's laptop.... I know there's a recession going on but some might find it tasty.
#5
very good price.. it would be worth more than £2k for the same spec

That's one sexy ass machine......

Am looking for a top spec laptop, but had a budget of £800

Am tempted to pay the extra but need to know if it has blu-ray? prefferably writer...had a quick google but couldn't find the answer, anyone know?

There is a link to the manufacturer spec sheet on the site in the original post. And no, it doesn't have a BR drive (reader or writer).

This would blow away most desktops, and it looks stunning. Bare in mind that it is not new though - it is a factory re-work with the first 3 months warranty with Toshiba and the next 9 months with Morgan, so if it breaks after 3 months it might be a refund if they can not fix it or have a replacement in stock.

Incredibly, after a quick google search, the 4GB RAM is worth £400+ on its own!!
#9
too expensive
#10
Is this the one with the dodgy screen ?? !! 1440 x 900 on a 17" laptop with that spec. is a waste . . . 2GB x 2 DDR3 laptop RAM will cost around 100 quid max.
#11
I hate how much more expensive laptops are here than in the US..
#12
My son had this from Santa, fantastic laptop with a really good sound...awesome machine
#13
Not meaning to thread spoil but I am playing L4D and CS:S at very reasonable settings on my £580 laptop with a 9600GT from Argos. Couldn't justify this spend to be fair.

I'm sure it's a good price, but value for money?

I don't think it has! Which is bad for a laptop of this spec. Sure I saw this on the Toshiba web site, but I'd check it yourself to be sure.

Oh yes, in fast most of the powerful or top quality laptops like the Thinkpad T, W and X series, Sony Z and TZ and Macbook pro start at around this price and go up to £2000+.

This would blow away most desktops

That's rather an exaggeration, it'd only be blowing away desktops less that half it's price. A £700 desktop with a Q9400 and a 4850 would give equal or better performance. A £1400 desktop with a GTX 295 would easily give double the performance. Cheap laptops may have come down, but you still pay a very hefty premium if you want that extra portability.

Eh? 4GB of DDR3-1066 like this uses can be had for £50, here for example.

That's desktop RAM, they have no stock and it's showing as £60.67. Not a great example but I've seen 2x 2GB DDR3 SODIMMS for about £55 so the price is in the right ball park.

To expensive even for the spec
#21
Something isn't right here - the QX9300 is a quad core processor yet the spec lists it as '2 x 2.53Ghz', this processor on its own is extremely expensive so this price seems very low. The laughable screen resolution is an instant deal breaker for me though.

Dell have a similar model but that has dual SLI gfx cards and costs £2,300.
Please note that this is the extreme dual core which will out perform a quad core.

Good tidings john! I see you've sneaked over from techpond forums!

I dislike people who mark this as cold purely because they dont understand the concept of desktop replacement. Yes £1400 is a lot for a gaming machine, but is more than reasonable for a gaming laptop!

That said, i would still take the MSI GT725 i posted the other day over this one!

What do you mean I've sneaked over Mr I just got here in 2007?? The cold vote isn't that surprising as it's just the way of this site unfortunately, if it is a genuine deal I do think it's good - it should offer a decent chunk more processor performance and the 9800M graphics card is no slouch either in comparison to the MSI. However I've not been convinced by the previous high performance Qosmio's I've seen in the flesh, aside from being ugly brutes they don't seem that well built and the cooling system design seems to leave the machine running somewhat hot.

At the moment I'm going to stick with the i7 desktop for performance though and see what Dell offer me in place of the XPS M1710.

Pretty nice spec. But thats the price Novatech cleared their X90 at. Which had quad core 2.83 Ghz CPU, 3x HDD, and bluray drive.

I'm guessing that was a desktop processor though?
