Renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (Cusack) only believes what he can see with his own two eyes. After a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he scoffs at the concept of an afterlife. Enslin's phantom-free run of long and lonely nights is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, "Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms." Defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Jackson), the author is the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room. Another bestseller may be iminent, but like all Stephen King heroes, Enslin must go from skeptic to true believer - and ultimately survive the night.

I really enjoyed this - I watch a lot of horror films and am very rarely scared... but there's something about this that really put the ***** up me, especially the first half.

Well worth checking out - see if you can watch it on your own late at night!

I believe he dies on the directors cut version, someone correct me if im wrong? All sounds abit daft to me,if its based on a book stick to the feckin story (i havent read it btw) but if he dies in the book,he dies in the film, doesnt die in the book doesnt die in the film, dont go changing it just for the sake

Yes you're correct that's the ending on the director's cut. I think that's a much better ending and with that ending it's a good film.

I assume the person who said it was crap saw the other ending. I've seen that version as well and it sort of ruined the film in my opinion. If you look on imdb though people have some interesting theories about that version, which make it seem slightly more interesting.

Anyway, good film, good price. Hot.

Googled about the book and apparently he lives in the book,he finds some matches and sets fire to himself long enough to be free of the rooms control of whatever you want to call it and he runs out of the room,a guy is getting ice close by and puts out the flames, the stranger feels the room inviting him in but Mike Enslin tells him not to go in,anyway he survives but sleep with a night light on etc
