When used correctly, a male condom is about 98 per cent effective. This means that only about 2 in every 100 women would get pregnant.

I would say if you are in a long term relationship other methods which are free may be more effective. Easy option for the ladies is the pill, however if like me she is allergic to both the pill and condoms, I would heartedly recommend the IUD, also known as the coil. Once fitted it last 5 years is is 99.99% effective without any further need for contraception (unless you are concerned about STDs, or have relations with people outside your relationship, in which case a hat on the old chap is essential). Or of course you could stick to BJ's but that can be a bit repeitive after a while and may result in lockjaw for the giver.

it would be HARD to beat a deal this tasty! hope its not on for only a SHORT period and instead is on for a LENGTHY spell so everyone can have a stab at this.

hmmm, i don't understand. You say 'or you could give bj's'. That's fine if you’re in a relationship and have been tested otherwise unprotected oral is deadly!
Not many people seem to know this. Except from pregnancy you can get all the outcomes as 'normal' sex. That's all the STD's including HIV. Check avert.org or any official website regarding aids.

Just thought i would share:thumbsup:

Not true. It means there is only a chance of getting pregnant during that 2%. You don't get pregnant every time you have sex without a condom. And used properly condoms can be said to have very close to 100% chance of preventing pregnancy. The 98% stated may only be because of the legal problems in stating something is 100% effective.

You may be shocked but that isn't true either! With typical use, so user failure where pregnancy occurs because the method is not used, or is used incorrectly, 15% of people using it within a year fall pregnant. With perfect use, so method failure, pregnancy occurs despite the method of contraception being used correctly, 2% of people using it within a year fall pregnant.

Not true also! Love how people pick numbers from a hat to give expert advice on contraceptive measures! IUD has around 0.6-0.8% of people falling pregnant within 1 year of using (so not the 0.01% you quoted!!!!) and around a 2% cumulative pregnancy rate over 12 years.

btw all info taken from the nhs who got their info by compiling a huge amount of data

144? That's just GROSS.

The information I gathered was from a sexual health charity where I have worked - what makes you so arrogant that your set of stats are more accurate than theirs? They do extensive research also and have the advantage of their own agenda being the health of the individuals, unlike the NHS who used to be like that, but are now more focused on the financial burden on unwanted pregnancies, abortions etc rather than actually giving a hoot.

As a person that has used condoms, the pill and the coil I am in a position to say what worked for me and wanted didnt, and the IUD did.

You are quite right, the charity you have worked for has its own agenda, and the NHS has its own agenda, and that is how we should look at all statistics.

I am sure you are also right when you say "I am in a position to say what worked for me and wanted didnt (sic)". But isn't it a bit harsh and unfair of you to accuse him of being "so arrogant" because he attributes the set of statistics he is using to the NHS (not to himself) when your data is based on personal anecdotal evidence and the (un-named) charity where you have worked? It would be interesting to see if you could give an attribution and source, yes?
#34
i get my condoms for free from a sex clinic in newcastle, only 2 years left until i'm too old to be allowed freebies from there so i should stock up lol

Not being arrogant, just did my dissertation mainly on thalidomide and that had a bit about contraceptive measures etc. You think a sexual health charity can generate and collate better data than the nhs? really? :). What you are saying gives me the impression that you think that the nhs can fake statistics etc. well they can't. just like research institutes funded by the government cant make up stuff, without going too much into it there are standards set up to stop that.
I am sorry if i offended you tho! think i just feel big headed after finding out i got a 2:1 yesterday! yay!

When people kick off by saying "Love how people pick numbers from a hat...", I would say absolutely not.
