It isnt a good spec at all compared to other laptops. However, people seem to like the travelmate build and pay extra for it.

Acer & Build Quality are not words that many Acer laptop owners can give praise for.

Unfortunately I've had the fortune of using an Acer laptop and also dealing with Acer's Customer service, which might I add is the worst customer service I've ever had to use.

Acer products are a running joke at the company that I work for, I know many friends who have had the same problems with heat issues, broken hinges, poor case plastics, mainboard failure.

Acer normally try and attract buyers by offering a very high spec for a low value price, and the phrase "you get what you pay for" normally springs to mind when things do start to go wrong.

Travelmates are generally in a different league. I used one as a pro trainer travelling all over the Uk and abroad and it did a sterling job although i later went HP and IBM Thinkpad.

My acer was a travelmate 8000 and it failed within 8 months of normal use, after 5 repairs it came back worse that it was originally, I spent around £30 on phone calls, sent several complaints letters which I received no reply to, completely disgusting company, I ended up selling it for parts, the only good thing about it was the hard drive as that wasn't made by acer :)

Have to agree with IBM Thinkpad, if I was to choose a laptop thesedays I'd either go Asus or Lenovo, although I've been very happy with my Samsung Netbook which is still going 3 years strong.
