Use code EARLYXMAS2010 for 10% off any thinkpad. Used this 15" ThinkPad Edge as an example @ £454:

Intel Core i5-460M Processor (2.53GHz, 3MB L3)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32
15.6" HD AntiGlare, Midnight Black Glossy
Mobile Intel 5 Series Discrete GFX Chipset with 512MB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5145 Graphics
3 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)

320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm

6 cell 2.2Ah Li-Ion Battery

Good deal, better discounts that the employee scheme!

A waste of a i5 if that thing doesnt do 64-bit.

Hence why they probably only gave it 3GB.
#3
Weren't these £349 earlier with some £100 discount or was that i3 ?
Wonder how well they compare to the UL30 (2300) I am using right now?

It was about £350 including £100 discount for I3. But the quality of the build is not as good as the usual Thinkpad series like T an dthe X. For the Edge 15 the complaints seemed to be about the flex or the keyboard and the bouncy "enter" key side where the DVD player is, very uneven distribution of light on the screen from left to right. This light issue is not an issue for text and business graphics but can be an issue for films and for photos. There is tiny practical advantage of the i3 Clarkdale over the core 2 duo.Wolfdale 2008.

Best not to assume things without checking; when you 'customise and buy' you can select between 32-bit and 64-bit at no extra charge.

Some of the customizations like £25 for an extra 1Gb ram are probably not worth it; but some folks might want to pay £10 for a faster HDD, £36 for bigger /faster HDD or £22 for a 9-cell battery.

Had a quick look...but does this have HDMI? Didn't see any mention of it on the actual website

I have a thinkpad t60 bought from work - must b e about 4-5 years old at least - core 2 duo and 512mb memory. Runs Vista just fine and this thing is made of stronger stuff than a sherman tank!!!!.. has survived more than one drop! dont know what the quality of the new hardware is like??

Current T series are just as good as they ever were. Edge models, while well made are not in the same class of build. Think of them of somewhere between normal consumer quality and a full on thinkpad.
#15
cheers.. just had a look... upgrades on this thing are pretty good value..
64 bit windows at no cost and an upgrade from the base 250gb model to 320gb is £5!
Fingerprint reader £6 (pretty cool!)

Seriously worth considering i would have thought if you were in the market to spend this sort of money on a laptop
#16
there's quidco to be had with this as well, making it even cheaper! an i5 with dedicated graphics for under £450, bargain! if only i had the money for one :(
#17
Excellent deal!!!

Ive been looking for a laptop for 3 months now and this is by far the best deal.

i5 & 320gb & 3gb RAM for under £480. Including 6% quidco as well.

Added fingerprint for £6, faster 3gb ram, 9 cell battery for an extra £20 which is a steal.

This laptop can go on for 4.5 hours but with a 9 cell battery add another 2 hours before charge.

According to the lenovo site, the up to £100 cashback deal is still on until the end of the month.

Be wary and read the T&C. I think you have to claim 30 days AFTER your purchase and BEFORE 60 days post-purchase so this offer might not be available.

The terms of the £100 cashback states that only these models get cashback and the ones on the Leonovo web site are 0301CTO.

Edge 15 NVN2QUK 03022QG

Lastly at a price of about £450 up and the T series are £800 up , the quality will be more like that build quality for £400 laptop rather than that for an extra £400. For a start you would not get that magnesium alu alloy chasis. Hence the reason that this is called "Edge" rather than "Thinkpad".

Is a HD 5145 better on average than the 330m does anyone know? I have an I3 with a 330m and am thinking of upgrading to this ... if it is actually an upgrade (graphic-wise)
#23
330m is much better than the 5145. but your getting an i5 here so its what you think you need most.

I'm liking the look of this and have voted hot as the spec compared to a laptop I have on order, but will happily cancel, is superior for not much more money, but I've a couple of queries...

There's two options for windows, US English and EMEA. Is that to say that EMEA will give me English English?

Unless I've been looking in the wrong places, it seems to me that these laptops have no built in speakers. Is that right?
#28
Hey i was wondering what the difference between:
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 US English.... and
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 EMEA (MEA) English (EM)
is as i'm not sure which would be best for in the UK??
any help would be much appreciated :)
#29
Haha snap on the query front
2 Likes #30
The English English is the correct option.

Refund policy is 7 days so if unhappy in anyway then send it back and get a full refund - can't ask for more than that
#31
Quidco gives you 6% cashback in addition to the 10% on the site! So that's another £27 in potential cashback from Quidco!!

HOT!
#32
Before you choose 64bit the default setting is EMEA (Europe, Middle east and asia) so I assume EMEA is the one you want
#33
After searching around, it would appear that they do have stereo speakers just under the screen.
#34
Can anyone answer a few questions for me please :-

1. Also, seen this - http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.208-8799.aspx - is there much difference ? This one has a webcam also.
2.What's the difference between the 32 bit and 64 bit windows and which should I should use ?
3. Is it worth the extra £23 for the 9 cell battery ?
4. Does it have HDMI ?
#35
Mobility Radeon HD 5145 = 10194 3dmark03
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD = 4073

i5-460M = 2877 3dmark03
i3-370M = 2686

So it looks like graphics card would be twice as good as the £400 dell http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/dell-inspiron-15r-laptop-intel-core/811111 and many others around?
Very nice, only thing for me is they don't offer a refund on windows or even ship with windows 7 DVD so you can't get a clean windows install unless a friend has DVD to borrow..

1. No contest - the Edge is better than the one Tesco have!
2. 64bit will make the best use of the processor that's in the Edge model
3. Only if you're going to be away from mains power for more than 3-4 hours at a time.
4. The 11" screen mentions HDMI in the spec, the 15" one does not so assume not and if it does, it'll be a nice surprise.

Just ordered for my brother, great deal thanks op!
#38
pricing is odd - the 15 inch machine is much cheaper than the 13!
#39
Ordered one last night, just the base model 15" i5 processor and upgraded the HDD to the faster speed. Quidco tracked in a few hours and Lenovo have phoned me this morning to confirm the order.

I'd been looking at getting an laptop with an i3 processor for ~ £400 over the past week or so and one on order, cancelled that and have now got an i5 with dedicated graphics for ~ £440 net. Thanks OP!

So by your logic you are surprised when you see a smaller Ferrari priced more expensively than the bigger ford galaxy?
